Not medical. Avoir un coup de pompe/barre is an idiom.

'pick-me-up', alternatively 'quick boost'

This is about snacking
Peer comment(s):

neutral polyglot45 : but surely the "coup de pompe" is when you suddenly run out of energy ? you may need a quick boost but that's not the point - you're thinking of the "fringale" which is when you attack food as though your life depended on it

agree whither has fle : you are right i believe..the "coup de pompe" is the sudden tiredness...a well know expression in France...and the "fringale" is when you need to eat. Have a good day.

disagree Adam Warren : Respectfully, as polyglot 45 says, it is the opposite; here, a contrast is made between feeling drained and guzzling.

feeling physically drained

Coup de pompe : to feel drained physically
une fringale : a craving
Example sentence:

'J'ai eu un coup de pompe' : I felt drained

Peer comment(s):

neutral Emma Paulay : This is what the dictionary suggests. However, a "coup de pompe" is a short term feeling of tiredness - a temporary loss of energy. To me, feeling drained means being in need of more than a bar of chocolate to get going again.
