Subtitles for DVD

Hi everybody

I would like to ask you about making subtitles for a DVD. I'm using Jubler and Adobe Encore on Mac. Does anybody know how to import .srt or any text format subtitles in Encore without losing all the format features? (position on the screen, font, size, color...)

I've seen it's possible to import them as an image script (sub/idx) but I can't find any software to convert them to these formats.

Could anybody give some tips?

Anyway, AFAIK high-level subtitling (DVD authoring) programs use simple TXT-like subtitle files, containing only the in/out times and the subtitles text. All formatting is done on the subtitling program. One example here would be the defunct Ulead DVD Workshop.

On the other hand, low-level subtitling programs use complex subtitle files, like SSA and ASS, which contain all the info on font, size, position, color, style etc. These programs just embed the subtitles as per the settings in there. An example here would be the freeware DVD Flick.

Thanks for your reply José!

It seems, it's not so easy to import image files. I have to subtitle a video with a non conventional text font (right-to-left writing) which is not supported in most of the authoring programs. If anybody has suggestions, they would be really helpful!

By the other hand, could you recommend me some mac programs to embed subtitles?

Though I started my computing life with an Apple ][, my next machine was a PC-XT, and I have never used a Mac for anything, not even for a brief moment.

Another possibility is http://www.doom9.org/ - Select "Guides" on the left menu, and then you may see links to interesting stuff under "Separate ripping steps" > "Subtitles".

I know that Subtitle Workshop has a setting for "right-to-left" languages. The problem is in building a bridge from it to Encore.
