在波士頓，特別是在人名、街名、地鐵站，甚至城鎮的翻譯，都帶有濃厚的本土特色，沒有所謂對與錯的問題，約定俗成，但求說得出、容易記得到便是，目的只是給不諳英語的僑胞一個方便，就不太著重雅與不雅的考慮，例如﹕惡屎佛街、乞臣街、泰勒街都屬此列。隨著新移民多了，其中不少是外省移民，總覺得廣東人的音譯是怪怪的，加上文化習性不同，頗難接受這種『土翻譯』。
