Osmanlı ordularının geçiş güzergahı üzerinde kalması

Turkish to English Other History
My whole source text in general has some ambiguities and approximations, unnecessary commas which I removed for the sake of making it a bit clearer, not to mention the repetitions since it was not edited (I just wonder why I get an unedited text to translate, but that is a can of worms I'd rather not open here). And I have a less-than-perfect sentence from this unedited text. But the main idea is there:

Sultan Mehmed III'ün saltanatı süresince devam eden Avusturya savaşı nedeniyle ve Edirne'nin Osmanlı ordularının geçiş güzergahı üzerinde kalmasından dolayı, Osmanlı Sultanı ve ordunun serdarı sadrazam sık sık Edirne 'de konaklamışlardır.

It is about the Austro-Turkish war that occurred between 1593-1606 also known as the Long War.

So my problem with this sentence is: since we don't have a specified destination (it varies since this is a series of wars lumped together as "the war(s) with Austria" all throughout my source text), I can't figure out how to work out the "Osmanlı ordularının geçiş güzergahı üzerinde kalması" part. I think I should find a way as vague as the source sentence in order to stay as close to the original meaning. But since the text hasn't been edited yet, the author allows a little tweaking to make it better as long as the meaning stays the same. One way I thought of is to say "on the route of the Ottoman armies' march" which seems to sound awkward to me.

Thank you very much in advance.

I actually believe the translation you suggested works well too.

This still makes the sentence seem somewhat redundant, but after all I see this problem also in the original text.
Note from asker:
Thank you very much. "Transit route" was one of the possibilities I entertained, but I was not sure if it was suitable for the context since all the examples I found seemed to be in the transportation field. Other than that, it really conveys the idea. Thank you for the reference. I am glad to see it used in this particular context.

being on the deployment route of the Ottoman troops

Because of the war with Austria during Mehmet III's reign and Edirne's (Adrianople's) being on the deployment route of the Ottoman troops, the Ottoman Sultan and the grand vizier commanding the army stayed in Edirne frequently.

since it was located on the route of the Ottoman marching army

I think this is how I would have put it within the context of the original text but I like reorient's suggestion too.

bkz.

Edirne'nin Osmanlı ordularının geçiş güzergahı üzerinde kalmasından dolayı

due to the fact that the Ottoman armies were using the traditional overland route across Edirne

being on the conduct route of the Ottoman troops

"Geçiş güzergahı" is called conduct route.

So I would translate it like above.
