Initiated into the professional world through a multi-national travel agency, I worked as an Inbound Travel Assistant before moving on to work in various other travel operation units, where I specialized in family travel.
Teaching beckoned for no special reason, but the decision helped me better my language and perceptive skills.
I taught German (Language) and English (Literature) in schools for seven years. My experiences with children and young people in schools have contributed to my understanding of their world and expectations they have from ours. Having involved myself in a variety of activities like fortnightly newsletter publication, German Club and dramatics, I was able to not only impart an appreciation for these languages amongst youth, but also became deeply aware of their minds.
It has been almost ten years that I have begun to translate as a full time occupation. My work has been appreciated not only for the adherence to deadlines, but also for the quality of the translated text.
Deriving expertise from my past professional experience, I began with translating general marketing and promotional material, which required a quick wit only a person well-versed with both the languages could employ to the best of its advantage. Thereafter I moved on to general legal and technical texts. Quite a shift, but necessitated by numerous offers. Of late I have been translating in-game texts and documents related to renewable energies (solar and wind energy).
In the duration of my work as a translator, I have also found a sizable amount of work coming in for proofreading and editing of translated texts. The level of concentration and the dedication to quality required for these assignments are as high, if not more, as those required for translations. This is the reason why I am driven towards proofreading as well.
Through it all, I lean towards the translation of literary texts. While these are not yet the bread earners, they certainly seem to grow in number with time. I have translated memoirs and self-published books for individuals and magazine articles for the tourism and fashion industry.
