Source text - English Hindustan Unilever partners with UNICEF to provide 5 lakh soaps to Uttar Pradesh in the fight against COVID-19
xx, xx September 2020 – Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), as a part of its global partnership with UNICEF, will donate______ soaps to vulnerable communities in the state of Uttar Pradesh to support the government’s response to COVID-19.
Handwashing with soap is one of the cheapest and most effective measures to protect against the coronavirus, as well as many other infectious diseases. It is now more imperative than ever to equip communities-at-risk with soaps in their efforts to prevent COVID-19.
Commenting on the initiative, Sanjiv Mehta, Chairman and Managing Director, Hindustan Unilever Limited said, “We firmly believe in the power of hand hygiene to fight coronavirus at the source. Our partnership with UNICEF has enabled us to equip governments in their efforts to curb community transmission of COVID-19, and our products will continue to shield communities at COVID hotspots across the country.”
Dr Yasmin Ali Haque, UNICEF Representative in India said, “In order to overcome COVID-19, we have to make handwashing accessible to all. It requires a culture of hand hygiene for which all – international partners, national governments, public and private sectors, and civil society need to come together. We are proud to partner with HUL to support vulnerable and marginalized communities in COVID-19 hotspots.”
In March, HUL committed INR 100 crore towards helping India fight the COVID-19 pandemic. In April, UNICEF and HUL came together for a mass-communication campaign titled '#BreakTheChain #VirusKiKadiTodo' to fight COVID-19. The Campaign combined the marketing expertise and reach of HUL with the technical knowledge of UNICEF to create engaging communication tools that encouraged people to change behaviours and stay safe during the pandemic.
Till date, HUL has undertaken various initiatives to ensure the safety of people and communities, sourcing products and ensuring business continuity for consumers to have access to essential items at a time they need it the most. The initiatives include large scale awareness campaigns, providing free sanitation and hygiene products to COVID-19 frontline workers and to the under-served sections of the society. HUL also committed to upgrading health care facilities in hospitals and testing centres and setting-up isolation centres to help local authorities curb COVID-19 spread.

করোনা ভাইরাসসহ আরও অনেক ছোঁয়াচে রোগ থেকে রক্ষা পাওয়ার জন্য সবচেয়ে সস্তা ও কার্যকর ব্যবস্থা হলো হাত ধোয়া। কভিড়-১৯ প্রতিরোধে ঝুকিপূর্ণ সম্প্রদায়গুলোকে সাবান দিয়ে সাহায্য করা এখন আগের থেকে আরও বেশি জরুরী।
সঞ্জিব মেহতা, চেয়ারম্যান এবং ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক, হিন্দুস্থান ইউনিলিভার লিমিটেড, এ বিষয়ে বলেন যে, “করোনা ভাইরাস প্রতিরোধে স্বাস্থ্যকর হাতের শক্তিতে আমরা দৃঢ়ভাবে বিশ্বাস করি। ইউনিসেফের সাথে অংশীদারিত্বের মাধ্যমে আমরা কভিড-১৯ এর কমিউনিটি ট্রান্সমিশন রোধে সরকারকে সাহায্য করতে সক্ষম হয়েছি এবং আমাদের পণ্যগুলো সারা দেশের কভিড হটস্পটগুলোতে বিভিন্ন সম্প্রদায়কে রক্ষা করে যাবে।
ড. ইয়াসমিন আলী হক, ভারতের ইউনিসেফ প্রতিনিধি বলেন, কভিড-১৯ দমনে হাত ধোয়াকে সকলের কাছেই সহজলভ্য করতে হবে। হাত সুরক্ষার বিষয়টি সকলের কাছে পৌছানোর জন্য সকলকে (আন্তর্জাতিক অংশীদারবৃন্দ, দেশীয় সরকার, সরকারী ও বেসরকারী খাত এবং সিভিল সোসাইটি) এক হয়ে কাজ করতে হবে। এইচ ইউ এল এর সহযোগী হয়ে কভিড-১৯ হটস্পটগুলোতে প্রান্তিক জনগোষ্ঠীগুলোকে সাহায্য করতে পেরে আমরা সত্যিই গর্ববোধ করছি।
মার্চে এইচ ইউ এল ভারত সরকারকে কভিড-১৯ মহামারী মোকাবেলায় ১০০ কোটি রুপি সাহায্যের প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছে। এপ্রিলে, ইউনিসেফ এবং এইচ ইউ এল একসাথে কভিড-১৯ মোকাবেলায় '#BreakTheChain #VirusKiKadiTodo' নামে একটি গনসংযোগ কর্মসূচি পালন করেছিল। এ কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে ইউনিসেফের কারিগরী দক্ষতার সাথে এইচ ইউ এল এর বিপণন দক্ষতা ও পরিচিতিকে যুক্ত করে একটি আকর্ষণীয় যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থা তৈরি করা হয় যা এই মহামারীতে মানুষকে নিরাপদ থাকতে ও অভ্যাস পরিবর্তনে উৎসাহী করবে।
