Student Exchange: spending one semester or more at Damascus University to:
1. study Arabic at the Higher Language Institute
The Department of Arabic Language Teaching at the Higher Language Institute offers intensive Arabic language courses at eight levels, each with duration of one month.
2. attend in other faculties and departments of the University as auditing students:
2.1. They have to be at least upper-intermediate in Arabic.
2.2. They are not considered regular students at Damascus University and cannot take exams or obtain marks for the subjects they attend.
Priority is given to students who are candidates on the basis of a governmental cooperation agreement or a cooperation agreement between Damascus University and their own university.
The Directorate of International and Cultural Relations ensures the admission of students and informs them officially.
Damascus University is not obliged to register or provide services to any student who has not received a letter of acceptance or admission.
Duration of Study:
For auditing students who wish to enroll in the faculties of Law, Sharia, Literature and Human Sciences (theoretical departments), the study is divided into two terms as follows:
The first semester: from 1st September to the 30th January
The second semester: from 15th February to the 30th June
As for the study duration of Arabic courses for non-native speakers, the management of the institute issues the annual program.
Registration of Exchange Students Under Cooperation Agreements
Documents required of foreign students wishing to study at the Higher Language Institute:
- A letter of nomination from the Directorate of International Relations of students’ universities showing the specialization and the academic year
Note: Upon arrival, students can go directly to the institute's headquarters in Al-Mezzeh to register.
Documents Required of Foreign Students Wishing to Study in the Theoretical Departments:
- A letter of nomination from the Directorate of International Relations of the student’s university showing the specialization and the academic year
- The student’s Curriculum Vitae in Arabic
- A letter of interest in Arabic outlining the purpose of study in Syria and the proposed study duration (one or two semesters)
Note: Students have to be at least upper-intermediate in Arabic.
Upon arrival, students go to the Directorate of Student Affairs to submit the following documents:
- Three copies of the passport translated into Arabic
- Three recent photographs
- The AIDS test conducted at Damascus AIDS Center. It can also be obtained from the University's medical department at the central administration in Al-Baramkeh, Damascus
- The student’s certificate of degree translated into Arabic
- A valid document issued by the mukhtar of the area of the student's residence and the telephone number. If any mistake is found or the phone number is not valid, the student will be deprived of the residency.
After submitting these documents at the Directorate of Student Affairs, the student is directed with a letter to the department where he wishes to register in order to finalize his registration.
Registration of Exchange Students Outside Cooperation Agreements
Documents required of foreign students wishing to study in theoretical colleges:
- The student’s Curriculum Vitae in Arabic
- A letter of interest in Arabic outlining the purpose of study in Syria and the proposed study duration (one or two semesters)
- A recommendation letter from one of his professors at university in Arabic or English
Note 1: The student must have at least a good level in Arabic.
Arriving in Damascus, the student goes to the Student Affairs Directorate to submit the following documents:
- Three copies of a valid passport translated into Arabic
- Three recent photographs

Note 2:
-Registration of auditing foreign students outside the Cooperation Agreement shall begin each year from the 9th of January to the 2nd of February and any delay beyond the application deadline cannot be accepted.
- Auditing students begin studies during the academic year from the 1st of September to the 30th of June.
- Auditing students must commit to full time attendance in the department after registration according to a schedule signed and supervised by the Deanship. Students must pledge to attend all classes and the faculty is responsible for monitoring students’ attendance.
- Study duration of auditing students is limited to one year- to be renewed for another year if necessary.

التبادل الطلابي
يعني قضاء فصل دراسي أو أكثر في جامعة دمشق:
1 - لدراسة اللغة العربية في المعهد العالي للغات:
يقدم قسم تعليم اللغة العربية لغير الناطقين بها في المعهد العالي للغات دورات مكثفة للغة العربية على ثماني مستويات ومدة كل منها شهر.
2 - للحضور في كليات الجامعة الأخرى كطلاب مستمعين:
أ - يجب أن يتمتع الطالب بمستوى متوسط أعلى على الأقل باللغة العربية.
ب - لايعتبر الطالب المستمع طالباً نظامياً في جامعة دمشق، ولا يمكنه تقديم امتحانات أو الحصول على علامات عن المواد التي يحضرها.
- تعطى الأولوية للطلاب المرشحين بناءً على اتفاق تعاون حكومي أو اتفاق تعاون بين جامعة دمشق وجامعتهم الأم.
- تعمل مديرية العلاقات الدولية والثقافية على تأمين قبول للطالب وتبلغه رسمياً بذلك.
- جامعة دمشق ليست ملزمةً بتسجيل أو تقديم خدمات لأي طالب لم يحصل على رسالة قبول أو استقبال.
مدة الدراسة:
بالنسبة للطلاب المستمعين الراغبين بالتسجيل في كليات الحقوق والشريعة والآداب والعلوم الإنسانية (الكليات النظرية):
تتألف الدراسة من فصلين دراسين على الشكل التالي:
الفصل الأول: من أيلول/ سبتمبر إلى 30 كانون الثاني/ يناير

كيفية التسجيل لطلاب التبادل ضمن اتفاقيات التعاون

1- كتاب ترشيح للطالب من مديرية العلاقات الدولية في جامعته يبين فيه الاختصاص والسنة الدراسية.
ملاحظة: عند وصول الطالب إلى دمشق يستطيع التوجه مباشرة إلى مقر المعهد في المزة- أوتوستراد للتسجيل.
الوثائق المطلوبة من الطلاب الأجانب الراغبين بالدراسة في الكليات النظرية:
- كتاب ترشيح للطالب من مديرية العلاقات الدولية في جامعته يبين فيه الاختصاص والسنة الدراسية.
- السيرة الذاتية للطالب باللغة العربية.
- رسالة من الطالب يبين فيها الهدف من دراسته في سورية باللغة العربية مع ذكر مدة الدراسة (فصل دراسي أو فصلين).
ملاحظة:
- على الطالب أن يتمتع بمستوى متوسط أعلى على الأقل باللغة العربية.
- عند وصول الطالب إلى دمشق يتوجه إلى مديرية شؤون الطلاب لتقديم الوثائق التالية:
1- ثلاث صور عن جواز السفر مترجماً إلى العربية.

بعد تسليم هذه الأوراق في مديرية شؤون الطلاب يأخذ ورقة إلى الكلية الراغب بالدراسة فيها ليتم تسجيله النهائي.

- عند وصول الطالب إلى دمشق يتوجه إلى مديرية شؤون الطلاب لتقديم الوثائق التالية:

يبدأ التسجيل للطالب الأجنبي المستمع خارج اتفاق التعاون من كل عام من 9/1حتى 2/28 وأي تأخير عن الموعد المحدد للتسجيل لايمكن قبوله.
يبدأ دوام الطالب المستمع خلال عام دراسي من 9/1 ولغاية 6/30 .
على الطالب المستمع الالتزام بالدوام في الكلية بعد التسجيل وفق جدول يوقع من قبل العمادة، وبالمقابل يتعهد الطالب الالتزام بالدوام وعلى مسؤولية عمادة الكلية.
تحدد مدة دراسة الطالب المستمع لمدة عام واحد فقط. على أن يجدد لعام آخر عند الضرورة.
