Source text - English Social distancing by healthy people has been implemented around the world. These measures can help to “flatten the curve” of people who may become infected at any one time. The goal is to have less people requiring healthcare at the same time in order to avoid overcrowding in hospitals and running out of medical supplies and equipment.
However, other measures are also being enforced by governments around the world including quarantine and self-isolation. With all of these terms floating around, many people are confused. Below are definitions for each of these.
Social distancing – measures taken to increase the physical space between people in order to slow the spread of the virus. They include staying home, avoiding crowds, working from home when possible, meeting friends and relatives online instead of in person, keeping a distance of 1 meter from another person when in a public space.
Quarantine – staying home and away from other people as much as possible after exposure or potential exposure to an infection. For example, people who have recently traveled or have come into close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 are being required to undergo a 14-day quarantine.
Self-isolation – refers to someone who is confirmed to be ill with a communicable disease and must separate themselves from others. In terms of COVID-19, this is directed at people whose condition is stable and who are not experiencing difficulty breathing.
Translation - Arabic طُبقت إجراءات عديدة تهدف إلى إبعاد الأصحّاء عن بعضهم البعض في الكثير من الدول حول العالم. تُساعد هذه الإجراءات في "تسوية المنحنى وتسطيحه" أي تخفيض أعداد الأشخاص المعرضين للإصابة بشكل جماعي. يهدف ذلك إلى تخفيض أعداد الأشخاص الذين سيحتاجون رعاية صحيّة في نفس الوقت عند إصابتهم؛ أي تخفيض احتمال إصابة مجموعات كبيرة من الناس في نفس الوقت، وهذا يُجنّب اكتظاظ المشافي ونفاد المواد والتجهيزات الطبيّة.
وبالإضافة لهذه الإجراءات فقد طبّقت الدول والحكومات إجراءاتٍ أخرى بما فيها الحجر الصحي والعزل، ومع كثرة المصطلحات الطبيّة ازدادَ أيضاً الخلط بينها؛ ولذلك نذكر أدناه تعريف بعض هذه المصطلحات:
التباعد الجسدي: هي إجراءاتٌ اتُخذت للحفاظ على مسافة محددة بين الأشخاص لتقليل انتشار الفيروس. تتضمن هذه الإجراءات البقاء في المنزل، وتجنّب الأماكن المزدحمة، والعمل من المنزل إن أمكن، ولِقاء الأصدقاء والأقارب عن طريق الإنترنت بدلاً من مقابلتهم شخصياً، والحفاظ على مسافة متر واحد بينك وبين الآخرين في الأماكن العامّة.
الحجر الصحي: هو البقاء في المنزل وبعيداً عن الآخرين قدر الإمكان بعد أي تعرّضٍ محتملٍ للعدوى (أي إصابة غير مؤكدة ولكنها مُحتملة). ويُطبّق ذلك على الأشخاص الذين سافروا مؤخراً والأشخاص الذين كانوا على تماس بشخص مُصاب بالكوفيد-19 على سبيل المثال، ويُطلب من هؤلاء الأشخاص أن يخضعوا لحجرٍ صحيٍّ لمدّة 14 يومٍ.
العزل: يُطبّق العزل على الأشخاص الذي أُكّدت إصابتهم بمرضٍ معدٍ ما ويُطلب منهم أن يعزلوا أنفسهم عن الآخرين. يُطبّق العزل في حالة الكوفيد-19 على الأشخاص المُصابين ولكّن حالتهم بقيت مُستقرّة ولم يعانوا من أي ضيق في النفس.
