Bio
I am a native Turkish speaker and I have 4 years of experience in translation, proofreading, editing and localization for multimillion dollar global companies. I first started to make translations for the companies I worked for as a marketing professional. Thus I am specialized in translation and localization of marketing content.

I have always been meticulous about correct usage of the Turkish language. I used to send corrections to publishing houses and to newspapers as an unsatisfied audience.I can say that I began to gain my first translation experiences from 2002 onward, when I started studying at English medium education universities.

When I commenced working for the world tour program in Negis Production Company in 2010, I began translating professionally. We didn’t have any resources to hire a translation agency. I translated required documents for visas of the crew and permits for shooting; cultural and economic information of countries featured in the show; interview Q&A’s. I also did subtitling/voice-over for video footage. I continued to perform translation and editing duties as a MARCOM professional in Hilti. Since it is an international brand, we had resources for translation. However, this time I wasn’t happy with the quality and I was spending as much time editing as I would have spent translating the same documents. While it took me some time to learn the jargon of civil engineering, I decided to translate the MARCOM texts by myself.

I moved to the States in October 2012 and I was looking for a career change. However, I was looking for a job as a marketing professional because it was the only thing that I knew how to do. One day I received an offer from an agency to work as an editor for a short term project in Shutterstock. In the mean time, I was helping out friends and their relatives (mostly other immigrants and students with limited English language skills) by translating legal documents, bank statements, leases, papers for school etc. I was even making calls with them as their interpreter. It took me a while to see the obvious and find the courage to start as a freelance translator and editor.
