Le trajet contre le projet
La notion de trajet plus que celle de projet s'y manifeste nettement, dans la mesure où cette oeuvre fait advenir à sa propre conscience la recherche qui la fonde et à partir d'elle se réoriente vers un projet à
l'origine non-identifié. Faut de pouvoir montrer ce phénomène sur l'ensemble du parcours d'une oeuvre encore inachevée, je me contenterai d'en donner les étapes fondamentales. A l'origine de ce travail, un premier livre, intitulé Sortie d'usine (Minuit, 1982). Celui qui n'est pas encore écrivain, mais technicien spécialisé, trouve alors dans la littérature – et dans Kafka – la possibilité de dire un réel qui échappe à la littérature « réaliste » et dont la littérature
« formaliste » s'est détournée. Suivent cinq « romans » qui creusent cette investigation puis, de 1990 à 1995, trois récits voués à une exploration de moins en moins fictionnelle des réalités concrètes du
monde social, particulièrement des univers urbains, des périphéries et des marges en proie à toutes sortes de dérélictions, de violence et d'abandon. La pratique d'ateliers d'écriture à laquelle l'écrivain s'adonne désormais en place de son premier métier enrichit son
expérience d'un matériau décisif, qu'il transporte plus qu'il ne le transpose dans ses propres textes, et auquel il se confronte.
C'est alors que l'oeuvre prend conscience de son trajet et de son « travail », mot qu'il faudrait entendre ici dans le sens de la parturition : l'oeuvre accouche de son projet (et non l'inverse). Deux textes brefs
témoignent de cette maturation : Parking (Minuit,1996) et Impatience (Minuit, 1998). Le premier livre est un texte de commande suivi d'une réflexion intitulée « Comment Parking et pourquoi ». Derrière ce titre, l'écrivain entend « s'expliquer avec se sentiment qu'on n'a pas le choix, de comment et pourquoi un thème de travail, une histoire s'impose à vous. Comment faire littérature de la frange la plus contemporaine des images de nos villes » (4e de couverture).
Bon reste particulièrement attentif aux brisures syntaxiques et aux maladresses de langue que lui renvoient les ateliers d'écriture, dans lesquelles s'entendent tant de souffrances refoulées. « Comment Parking et pourquoi » commence ainsi par des fragments autobiographiques et évolue vers l'intellection des questions que ces expériences font advenir, jusqu'à la formulation d'un enjeu dont les
livres antérieurs s'étaient intuitivement saisis :
'Il ne s'agit pas de « représenter » les marges ou les franges, ou la détresse ou l'urbanisme neuf et ce qu'il induit, comme témoignage d'un monde séparé, mais d'interroger le besoin de représentation
lui-même, en le jouant sur ce que nous sommes au plus près, dans ce
champ étroit de nos pratiques ordinaires, là où nous avons chacun été mis.'
Retrouvant la phrase du « vieux Sophocle : – Qu'est-ce qui pousse les hommes à se représenter eux-mêmes ? » (Id), François Bon n'énonce rien d'autre que la question déjà lue chez Michon : « Qu'est-ce qui fait écrire les hommes ? » et signale une convergence
où l'on pourrait aussi rassembler d'autres écrivains actuels (Pierre Bergounioux, Pascal Quignard, par exemple). Le « projet » contemporain, si l'on peut encore maintenir ici la notion, est finalement de comprendre le souci qui anime ce que l'on fait. Dès
lors l'oeuvre s'énonce au conditionnel :
« Quelque chose surgirait du sol, prendrait forme de personnage
et accéderait à la possibilité de dire. Ce qui inclurait notre rapport à la ville, à la crasse des samedis soirs, et à la fin des dérives, quand il faut rentrer et qu'on ne sait pas comment faire. Il inclurait la matière bouleversée de la ville […] Cela inclurait surtout une diction, l'être sous les mots et constitué par eux, tel qu'il avance aujourd'hui dans le monde : une part collective dans le remuement anonyme qui interfère de façon majeure avec le destin individuel ». Au conditionnel et non au futur, au contraire de Breton (« La beauté sera convulsive ou ne sera pas »).
Deux ans plus tard, Impatience entreprend très consciemment cette fois, de mettre en place le dispositif susceptible de faire advenir cette « diction » et de faire entendre « la part collective dans le remuement anonyme ». Le livre mêle désormais la réflexion qui sous-tend le projet (en italique) et le texte qui en l'accompagne.
Alors un trajet s'énonce, qui se réoriente :
Qu'est-ce qui nous intéresserait encore du roman ... si c'était accumulation d'histoires mièvres et artifices de sujets ou noms posés avec effet de réalité, la ville est plus forte, quelque chose de désagrégé dans ce monde, et en construire pourtant représentation
: non plus comme roman mais le dispositif même des voix qui nomment la ville et tâchent de s'en saisir, non plus roman, jamais, mais cette seule force comme organique qu'il a laissée en
lui grandir […] (23-24).
Cette dernière formule – « cette seule force comme organique qu'il a laissé en lui grandir » m'apparaît comme la métaphore de la conception contemporaine du « projet » : non plus un a priori de l'oeuvre, mais cette conscience progressive qui en accompagne
le trajet. Tel est, je crois, le travail spécifique de la littérature
contemporaine qui s'accepte comme telle, et qui dès lors ne s'élabore plus artificiellement selon des procédures de « champ littéraire » héritées de la modernité, ne singe plus les postures désormais caduques des avant-gardes historiques, mais cherche sa voie dans
l'interrogation même de son élan. Un autre rapport au projet s'y construit, qui passe par la projection et l'introspection du sujet écrivant, plus incertain de lui-même que le sujet moderne, et qui se refuse à préfigurer son oeuvre. Dès lors, tout ce qui permet de
caractériser la littérature contemporaine s'articule naturellement
à cette position : aussi bien son inquiétude du présent que son interrogation du passé, son héritage d'un soupçon qu'elle ne prétend pas dépasser mais dans lequel elle s'installe, son indifférence
pour les stratégies de promulgation et de rupture, son refus du solipsisme et de l'intransitivité, son dialogue incessant avec les diverses disciplines des Sciences humaines, sa dimension éminemment critique, sonexigence comme son peu d'assurance. C'est aussi, je crois, ce qui fait son intérêt et sa valeur.
Translation - English Project as Trajectory
The conjunction of the project and the trajectory is clearly visible in the work of François Bon, insofar as his writing enables him to become progressively conscious of its underlying quest, guiding him towards a project that he had not originally identified. Rather than seek to demonstrate this across the whole range of an oeuvre that is as yet unfinished, I shall highlight the major stages of Bon's development. His first book Sortie d'usine (Factory exit) was the work of a specialised technician who had not yet become a writer, and who finds in literature - mainly in Kafka - the possibility of expressing a reality that eludes 'realist' literature, and on which formalist writing had turned its back. It was followed by five novels that delved further into this investigation and, from 1990 to 1995, by three texts aiming at a progressively less fictional exploration of concrete social realities and, in particular, of urban margins subject to all kinds of dereliction, violence and abandonment. In addition, the writing workshops that took over from Bon's work as a technician enhanced his experience, supplying invaluable 'live' material which, rather than transporting, he carried over and confronted in his own writing.
It is at this point that Bon's writing became conscious of its path and of its 'labour', in the sense of parturition: it was the work that gave birth to its project (and not the reverse). Two short texts attest this process: Parking (Car Park, 1996) and Impatience (Impatience, 1998). The first was a monologue commissioned by a television station, followed by the writer's reflections on how and why he wrote the text: 'the feeling of not having a choice as to how and why a theme or a story imposes itself on one. How to turn the most contemporary images of our cities into literature' (back cover).
Bon pays particular attention to the awkward language and broken syntax he witnessed during his writing workshops, where so much repressed anguish was voiced. His reflections on Parking therefore begin with autobiographical fragments and progress towards a reflection on the questions raised by these experiences, leading to the formulation of a project which his previous books had only intuitively seized upon.
'The object is not to 'represent' margins, fringes, desolation ot new city-planning and what it induces, as testimony of a world apart, but to question the need for fro representation itself, as it is played out in the most intimate recesses of the self, within the restricted scope of our ordinary habits, where we each have been placed.'
Recalling that 'old Sophocles' had asked: 'What is it that impels human beings to represent themselves?' (Bon 1996: 42), François Bon asks the same questions as Pierre Michon ('What is it that makes human beings write?'), indicating a convergence with other contemporary writers (Pierre Bergounioux and Pascal Quignard). Ultimately, the 'project' of contemporary literature is to understand the preoccupations that underpin it. Hence, these works are often articulated in the conditional tense, and not in the future, unlike Breton's surrealist programme ('Beauty shall be convulsive or not at all').
Two years later, in Impatience, now very consciously, Bon sought to bring forth this diction and reveal this collective dimension by integrating a level of metacommentary set in italics. What emerges here is a redirected trajectory:
'What earthly interest would novels have ... if they consisted only in mawkish stories, artificial characters and plausible sounding names? The city is beyond all this, it's something in our world that's all broken up, so how can it be represented? Not as a novel, but through the chorus of voices that name the city and try to grasp it. No, not a novel, but this unique, almost organic force that the city has fostered at its heart.'
I perceive this idea of an organic force unfolding from within as a metaphor for the contemporary conception of the 'project': no longer the premise for a work, but a progressive consciousness accompanying it along its path. This is, I believe, the distinctive 'work' of contemporary literature. It accepts itself as such, and no longer constructs itself artificially according to literary trends inherited from modernity, nor mimics the now outdated stances of past avant-gardes, but seeks its own path by interrogating its own impulses. It allows the development of a different relation to the project, through the projection and the introspection of the writing subject, less sure of himself than the modernist, and who refuses to programme his work from the outset. Consequently, all the characteristics of contemporary literature contribute to this stance: its anxiety as regards the present as well as its interrogation of the past, its inheritance of a doubt which it does not pretend to overcome but which it inhabits, its indifference to strategies for claiming the future or breaking with the past, its refusal of solipsism and intransitivity, its incessant dialogue with other disciplines in the human sciences, its eminently critical dimension, its expectations as well as its lack of confidence. This is also, I believe, what constitutes its interest and its value.

I/ Introduction
L'infliximab (Rémicade®) est un anticorps anti-TNFα monoclonal chimérique humain/murin de type IgG1, de 149 kDa. Sa région variable d’origine murine représente 25% de l’anticorps, constituant un potentiel site antigénique (HYPERLINK l "_ENREF_3" o "Knight, 1993 #1"1) et susceptible d'induire une réponse auto-immune par formation d’auto-anticorps anti-produits. De nombreuses études randomisées versus placebo ont démontré l’efficacité et la sécurité d’emploi de l’infliximab. Néanmoins, les réactions d’hypersensibilité ne sont pas rares. On distingue deux types de réactions d’hypersensibilité médicamenteuse: les réactions aiguës (pendant la perfusion et les premières 24h après la perfusion) et les réactions retardées (au-delà de 24 heures et jusqu’à 14 jours après la perfusion) (HYPERLINK l "_ENREF_4" o "Cheifetz, 2005 #351"2). Les symptômes décrits dans les réactions aiguës sont les flushs, les céphalées, l’hypotension ou hypertension artérielle, les nausées, la dyspnée, les sueurs, l’hyperthermie, les douleurs thoraciques, l’urticaire, l’angiœdème. Ceux décrits dans les réactions retardées sont les arthralgies, l’hyperthermie, les myalgies, le syndrome pseudo-grippal, les céphalées, l’asthénie, l’urticaire (HYPERLINK l "_ENREF_4" o "Cheifetz, 2005 #351"2, HYPERLINK l "_ENREF_5" o "Demoly, 2009 #374"3). Les réactions aiguës liées aux perfusions d’infliximab sont estimées de 3 à 27% des perfusions et les réactions retardées peuvent compliquer jusqu’à 25% des perfusions (HYPERLINK l "_ENREF_5" o "Demoly, 2009 #374"3), selon les études. La gravité des réactions aiguës, basée sur la symptomatologie clinique, est le plus souvent légère à modérée, rarement sévère (1% des patients psoriasiques traités par infliximab) (HYPERLINK l "_ENREF_6" o "Lecluse, 2008 #360"4,5). Le mécanisme de ces réactions liées aux perfusions d’infliximab est mal défini. 18 à 61% des patients traités par l’infliximab développent des anticorps anti-infliximab (ATI) (HYPERLINK l "_ENREF_8" o "Ferkolj, 2009 #373"6). Certaines réactions indésirables liées aux perfusions semblent être liées à ce développement d’ATI (HYPERLINK l "_ENREF_4" o "Cheifetz, 2005 #351"2,7,8). Des ATI ont été détectés chez la plupart des patients ayant eu une réaction aiguë ou retardée liée aux perfusions d’infliximab, et seraient liés à une diminution de l’efficacité de l’infliximab par sa neutralisation (9,10).
L’objectif principal de notre étude est de mettre en évidence une association entre la perte d’efficacité et le risque de réactions aiguës et retardées liées aux perfusions d’infliximab chez les patients psoriasiques, afin de les prévenir. L’objectif secondaire est de définir d’autres facteurs de risque de réactions aiguës liées aux perfusions d’infliximab chez les patients psoriasiques.
II/ Patients et méthodes
Une enquête rétrospective a été réalisée chez les patients traités par infliximab pour un psoriasis modéré à sévère avec ou sans atteinte articulaire, dans le service de Dermatologie du CHU de Poitiers de Janvier 2006 à Octobre 2010. Les perfusions d’infliximab étaient effectuées selon le schéma thérapeutique usuel (aux semaines 0, 2, 6, puis toutes les 8 semaines) à la dose de 5 mg/kg, par voie intraveineuse lente sur 2 heures. Les patients inclus étaient âgés de plus de 18 ans. Les données ont été recueillies à partir des dossiers cliniques.
Les caractéristiques suivantes ont été recueillies pour chaque patient: le sexe, l’âge, le type de psoriasis, la durée d’évolution du psoriasis, l’atteinte articulaire inflammatoire initiale, les comorbidités (hypertension artérielle, dyslipidémie, diabète, intoxication alcoolique chronique, indice de masse corporelle initial), les traitements antérieurs par d’autres biothérapies (efalizumab, etanercept, adalimumab), les scores PASI et DLQI à chaque perfusion, le poids initial et à la fin des séries de perfusions, la survenue de réactions indésirables immédiates ou retardées liées aux perfusions d’infliximab. La symptomatologie des réactions, ainsi que leurs délais de survenue par rapport à la perfusion, étaient précisés. Les critères d’exclusion des patients étaient: un psoriasis de type pustuleux, un nombre de perfusions inférieur ou égal à 3 (hors réaction d’hypersensibilité liée à l’infliximab), un échec thérapeutique [score PASI75 (diminution de 75% du score PASI initial) non atteint à 3 et 6 mois]. Les données suivantes ont été également recueillies: le nombre de perfusions par patients, le nombre de série de perfusions et l’intervalle entre les séries, un traitement concomitant par méthotrexate. Le critère principal d’efficacité de l’infliximab était le PASI75 à 3 mois et/ou à 6 mois. L’échappement thérapeutique était défini par une augmentation du PASI de plus de 25% par rapport au dernier PASI, quelque soit la série de perfusion, et/ou une augmentation du PASI supérieure au PASI50 initial (diminution de 50% du score PASI initial). Il était évalué lors de la 1ère série d’infliximab chez les patients ayant eu une réaction lors d’une 2ème série suivie d’un arrêt thérapeutique. Les patients ont été répartis en deux groupes selon l’échappement thérapeutique ou non à l’infliximab.

I/ Introduction
Infliximab (Remicade™; Schering-Plough) is a 75% human and 25% murine chimeric IgG1 anti-tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) monoclonal antibody. Its variable murine area constitutes a potential antigenic site (1), via the production of auto-antibodies. The efficacy and safety of IFX has been demonstrated in several randomized controlled trials in the treatment of psoriasis. However, a number of studies have described possible infusion reactions and a loss of efficacy with time. Infusion reactions to IFX can be classified as acute (within 24 hours after the start of an infusion) and delayed reactions (between the second and fourteenth day after an infusion) (2). The clinical signs and symptoms described for acute reactions are: flushing, headache, hypotension, hypertension, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweating, hyperthermia, chest tightness, urticaria, laryngeal edema, and bronchospasm. In delayed reactions symptoms include: skin rash, hyperthermia, myalgia, arthralgia, influenza-like symptoms, tiredness, headache, and urticaria (2, 3). Acute reactions are estimated to occur in between 3 and 27% of infusions. Delayed reactions can complicate up to 25% of the infusions (3). Acute reaction can be classified as mild, moderate or severe depending on the severity of the symptoms. Most reactions are mild or moderate and only a few are severe (1% of the psoriatic patients treated by infliximab) (4.5). The mechanisms underlying these infusion reactions are not completely understood. 18 to 61% of the patients treated by infliximab develop anti-infliximab antibodies (ATI) (6). Some infusion reactions seem to be related to the development of ATI (2,7,8). The formation of ATI has been associated with an increased risk of IR and a loss of efficacy (9,10).
The objective of our study is to evaluate the relationship between the loss of efficacy and infusion reactions in psoriatic patients treated by infliximab, in order to prevent them. The secondary objective is to define other risk factors for acute infusion reactions.
Patients and Methods
We conducted a retrospective study of 46 patients treated with IFX for moderate-to-severe chronic psoriasis at a single practice site. Patients were treated between January 2006 and October 2010. IFX was administered at a dose of 5 mg/kg, as a slow intravenous infusion (over 2 hours) at weeks 0, 2, 6 and every 8 weeks thereafter. These patients had recalcitrant psoriasis with or without psoriatic arthritis, they were either intolerant or unresponsive to other conventional systemic therapies (phototherapy, methotrexate, and cyclosporin). Patients with pustular psoriasis ?pourquoi and who had had less than or equal to 3 infusions (excepting those with infusion reactions) plus those who experienced therapeutic failure were excluded. Patients were allowed to continue topical therapy if necessary. The patients included were all more than 18 years of age. The data was collected from the clinical files. Determination of Psoriasis Area and Severity Index score (PASI) was performed at baseline and at each infusion. The main outcome of efficacy was a decrease of 75% of PASI versus baseline (PASI75) at 3 and/or 6 months. This was evaluated versus the first course of IFX if the treatment was discontinued at the second course. A loss of efficacy occurred when there was an increase in PASI of more than 25% versus the last PASI and/or greater than 50% of the PASI at baseline (PASI50). Patients were divided into two groups dependant on whether they maintained their clinical response or not. For each patient, the type of psoriasis, duration of psoriasis, articular involvement, co-morbidities (arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes), body mass index, previous treatments with other biologic agents for psoriasis (efalizumab, etanercept, adalimumab) was collected. The following data was also collected: number of infusions administered to each patient, the number of courses of infusions and the interval between the different courses, concomitant treatment with methotrexate, and the DLQI score. Source text - French « Mort du sujet », « retour du sujet », « sujet postmoderne », notre temps n’est pas avare de concepts et de formules... Or, savoir précisément ce qu’ils recouvrent est un autre défi. Penser l’époque contemporaine est en effet une gageure intellectuelle et déterminer ce qu’est le sujet ne l’est pas moins… Pour cela, étudier les spécificités du sujet aujourd’hui dans ses trois acceptions d’écrivain, de fable et de personnage sans gommer les différences propres à un corpus d’étude comparatiste semblait de bonne méthode. Une trentaine de vies imaginaires et d’essais méditatifs, formes littéraires nées pour ainsi dire dans le dernier quart du XX° siècle ; des proses mi-fictionnelles mi-sérieuses de quatre auteurs contemporains ayant déjà une certaine reconnaissance institutionnelle, P. Michon, G. Macé, P. Quignard et Fl. Delay, constituait notre corpus d’étude.
Se demander d’abord comment les ruptures avec l’ère formaliste affectaient la parole de nos auteurs était une étape nécessaire. On les a ainsi vu refuser l’autorité de « l’auteur » pour se représenter en « lettrés actifs » et chercher davantage l’espace ténu mais ferme d’un « effet sujet » que les sables mouvants de l’écriture personnelle. Que cette subjectivité repensée influe également sur le délicat équilibre de l’avéré et de l’imaginaire dans nos textes n’est alors pas étonnant. Elle est révélatrice de l’attente double qui caractérise notre temps et d’une des configurations que prend le lyrisme dans la prose contemporaine. Ces tensions dans l’écriture sont cependant moins sources de déchirements que l’origine d’une figuration nouvelle. D’une densité légère, d’une luminosité spectrale et d’une profondeur complexe et translucide à la fois, l’hologramme constitue une métaphore riche de sèmes pour penser l’écriture contemporaine comme le fonctionnement du personnage dans nos textes. Ni acteur impliqué dans la glèbe du monde ni individu désabusé, le sujet contemporain est plutôt ce rêveur qui construit des mondes et qui s’efforce d’y advenir. Altérant le présent pour pouvoir rencontrer autrui, le sujet contemporain s’assume comme être de relation et d’accueil, nouveau sujet lyrique qu’une voix chuchotée a fait naître entre le monde de l’attesté et celui de l’imaginaire.
Translation - English ‘Death of the subject’, ‘return of the subject’, Postmodern subject’ – modern criticism is not short of such notions and formulae. To know precisely what these mean is, however, another matter entirely… Whilst understanding the contemporary poses an intellectual challenge of one kind, defining the subject poses another of equal importance. For this reason, it seemed methodologically appropriate to define the specificities of the subject today by considering the three dimensions it assumes in the works of contemporary writers - namely the scholarly, the fabulous and the fictional. The corpus of works considered in this study comprises about thirty imaginary lives and meditative essays - literary forms which have developed mainly during the last quarter of the 20th century. These texts, by four relatively well-established literary figures, (P. Michon, G. Macé, P. Quignard and F. Delay) mingle both fiction and reality.
It was firstly necessary to determine how the break with the Formalist era had affected the writing of the authors considered. In this regard, they were found to have rejected the dogmatism of the writer and to be presenting themselves instead as writers basing their work on a more scholarly research-based approach; furthermore, they were found to be looking for a more concrete way of self-expression thus avoiding the potential pitfalls inherent in subjective writing. That this re-analysis of subjectivity in the chosen texts equally affects the delicate balance between the real and the imaginary is hardly surprising. It is revealing of the duality that characterises our times and illustrative of one of the forms of lyricism in contemporary prose. Such tensions in contemporary writing do not lead so much to rupture as to the beginnings of a new configuration. With a lightness, a spectral luminosity and a depth of complexity with a translucent quality, the hologram represents a rich set of metaphors for contemporary writing and the dynamic of the character within our texts. Neither an active force within the world nor disabused by it, the contemporary subject is above all a dreamer constructing its own worlds in which to take place. Altering the present in order to approach others, the contemporary subject presents itself as open to relationships with others, and constitutes a new lyrical entity brought forth by a whispering voice between the real world and the imagined.

I am a trilingual British/Swiss translator. My qualifications include an MA level translation degree from SSLMTI, University of Trieste, Italy, as well as an MA and a PhD in Modern French Literature (Royal Holloway, University of London).
As a translator I have a special interest in the following fields: Humanities (Art, Literature, Philosophy), Psychology, Medicine and Pharmacology, Food/Cuisine, Public Relations and Marketing.
I have worked extensively in academia and am very familiar with both the language and style guides used in preparation for the publication of scholarly articles.
