Bio
I was born and raised in the Unites States and since I was young I developed an early interest in different languages and cultures. I obtained a Bachelor's degree in European Studies from Vanderbilt University, where I focused on Italian language and culture. I also worked in Milan, Italy, for two summers during my undergraduate studies, where I translated press releases, contracts, and news articles from Italian to English.
In 2002, I began studying Arabic at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. During my Master's studies (2003-2005), I received three separate certificates of Summer intensive language study in Arabic at the American University in Cairo. In 2007, I graduated with an M.A. in Near Eastern Studies from the University of Arizona, specializing in Arabic language and culture.
Currently I am a PhD candidate in Near Eastern Studies at the University of Arizona, where I continue to use Arabic in the course of my research. I am a member of the American Translators Association (ATA), Middle East Medievalists and the Middle East Studies Association.
