PayPal has a localized site for Australia (note: not New Zealand), meaning you can send and withdraw funds to/from an Australian bank account. I would think that this would be far easier for you! You might be able to open an account with an Australian bank online, or if not surely a trip to Australia is far more feasible than going to the US and I would think that they would be quite likely to give you an account.

Here in Spain we have a branch of Citibank. I have an account there. I never encountered any problem in getting money from the U.S., I simply referred them to my Citibank account. Check out whether there are U.S. banks in your country, and simply ask them.

That could be a great idea. I think there is one in my country but in another city. The thing is that Venezuela has a very strong regulation on using foreign currencies. I think they use the Venezuela currency actually.

I am from Venezuela and I just getting in contact with a outsource company as a freelancer. I have been interested in opening an account in USA, but I read most of the comments here and it seems like it is obviously not convenient. How ever what banks from other countries like Canada or in Europe could be easier this process. Someone suggested the citibank and we have one in Venezuela, but the country has a very strong currency regulation that makes almost imposible for any Venezuela hands dolla... I really felt that HSBC wants all your business and none of it and I wasn't going to have enough cash in there for them to want me as a customer.
I went to citibank next and opened an account after showing a drivers license and passport. took about 30 mins and no requirement for a social security number or US address or phone number.
went to bank of america next. again, no problems and had an account in 30 mins. they did want a US phone number even though it didn't sound like they were ever going to call it. i had a number for them so it wasn't an issue. ▲ Collapse

I have a simple personal account, and I just got my first payment. I have a US client that wants to pay me via paypal regularly. If I start receiving more substantial amounts of money in my account, am I obliged to create this merchant account?

Thank you for clarifying that it is possible. I looking to open up a USA bank account because I will need to pay a training in dollars. Then it's better to buy them now when the transfer rate is still good.
Would you mind sharing what the annual cost is of your accounts. I presume you can access them via your online banking account.
You will most probably have a Credit and Debit card ....? What do they charge?

Paying your translators / suppliers with PayPal is very easy.
From the main menu you can start a submenu which on the German version is denominated as "Geld senden" should be a similar phrase in English.
Then you just enter the E-Mail address of the recipient and the amount/currency. You needn't to type in such huge bulks of information like the International Bank Accoung Number (IBAN) or the bank identifier.

It is a very conventient method of payment. Just ask your supplier for his invoice including the PayPal address and he will get the money very fast.
In comparison to other methods of payments PayPal is fair and reliable.
So there is really no need for opening a "Payoneer" Credit Card which IMHO generates fees and has no unique selling proposition.

Citibank & HSBC - They are ready but for this they have couple of conditions 1) I should have a checking (current ) account on my company's name in their bank here in India with a deposit of $100,000 minimum and later commit a business transaction of over $500,000 minimum per year...seemed like they only wants cream or top shot business accounts only. Not start up like us.
Well fargo, Bank of America and other mentioned here in this thread - they want us to fly to USA and visit their branch along with i10 form which we need to obtain from IRS along with a local address. Hence those options get ruled out too.
Paypal - even though it is an immediate solution but the customer that I am dealing with do not want to deal with a vendor who does not even have a bank account in USA, coz they want to deal only with a USA company/vendor for which we got ourselves registered in state of delaware but no luck on bank account till now.
Couple of companies who claim they can be our registered agent for which we will need to transfer our registered to them from delaware inc to xyz...they are also asking for $1,300 to $1,700 but have no reference to share before we pay them such big amount to open a bank account on our behalf.
Anyone has a better suggestion ?

I don't have a US bank account either, but I associated my credit/debit card (Visa) with my Paypal account, with a not too complicated validation procedure, and I simply withdraw the amounts to that card. I can use that card to withdraw cash from a local ATM or for payments anywhere. Is this option limited to certain countries only? It works fine in Romania, there's a small (approx. USD 2) withdrawal fee per transaction which is not that much.
