hello

I am actually working with SDL Trados 2009 Studio.
The customer has sent me the translation memory in tmx format.
How can I import it into Trados 2009?
do I have to create a new project in Trados 2009 and can I import the tmx of Trados 2007 the same way as if it was a sdltm format?
is there anybody who can tell me the exact procedure?
a thousand thanks

Verena

When creating a new project in Studio, you'll have the option to import a TM. All you have to do is import the supplied TM to the newly created TM.
Another option is to go to Translation Memories view and click File > New > Translation Memory (you can use Alt + Shift + N) and follow the instructions. After you created the TM, click the mouse right button over it in the left window and select Import and follow the instructions.

I could not find this button. But I found another one which is called: Upgrade Translation Memories
BUT
the problem is, that there are three alternatives to select and I do not know what they mean:
By clicking on the button "upgrade TMs" there you find a button which is called "Add File-based TMs from folder", so I click on it and there are now 3 options:

1) create output TM for each input TM
2) create output TM for each language pair
3) Custo

so I do not know which is standard. I am afraid of choosing for an option which is not satisfactory for the client. can you tell me which of the 3 options I have to select to guarantee that the customer s TM is completed after my translation?
thank you very much!

have a nice evening

How to Create a Local Translation Memory

This topic describes how to create a local translation memory in the Translation Memories view.

Before You Start
You can optionally create a language resource template to select when you create the translation memory.

To create a local translation memory:

In the Translation Memories view, select File > New > Translation Memory from the menu bar. The New Translation Memory Wizard is displayed on the General page.

NOTE
If you want to base the new translation memory on an existing translation memory, select the copy-from translation memory in the navigation tree, right-click and select New Translation Memory From from the shortcut menu.

Complete the General page:

If you want to base the new translation memory on an existing translation memory, select the translation memory in the Create From box.

Specify the Name, Location and language pair of the translation memory.

Click Next. The Fields and Settings page is displayed.

If you want to create custom fields for your translation units, type the name of the field in the Name column and then complete the other columns for that row.

If you want to disable any of the recognition settings on this page, clear the selections next to each recognition check box.

Click Next. The Language Resources page is displayed. If you chose to base the new translation memory on an existing translation memory, the language resources that exist in the copy-from translation memory will be listed here. On this page:

If you want to use the default language resource template, click Finish.

If you want to edit the default language resource lists, select the list in the Resources box and click Edit. Edit existing entries in the list or add new entries as required.

If you want to use an existing language resource template, click Browse next to the Template box and select a template. The language resources are copied to the translation memory.

Click Finish to create the translation memory. The Creating page is displayed.

When the status of the items on Creating page changes to Completed, click Close to save the newly created translation memory. The Close button is not active until the translation memory is created.

The translation memory is saved with a *.sdltm extension. The translation memory is added to the navigation pane in the Translation Memories folder. You can edit translation memory settings in the Translation Memory Settings dialog box.

NOTE
If other users will be working with this translation memory, you can define passwords that enable different levels of user access. To define access levels, edit the translation memory settings.
