neutral  philgoddard: Coach is ambiguous, and as you say, Hackney carriage means taxi and is therefore not appropriate.

  -> "Hackney Carriage" has the same meaning as in the 1847 Act. http://www.derby.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/EBF14A41-7F4A-4991-9E54... Didn't know they had taxi cabs in 1847!
