German term or phrase: persistieren
I stumbled upon this word in a Betriebhandbuch.

The Text:
Da die DWH Systeme die Daten aus der DIDB zum Monatsende in Ihren Systemen persistieren, muss insbesondere kurz vor dem Monatsende verstärkt auf die Qualität der Daten geachtet werden.

what i noticed- persistieren 'aus' der DIDB 'in' Ihren Systemen

my query:
The meaning of persistieren in the above sentence has nothing to do with the English 'to persist'. Or am i mistaken?

Is there an English equivalent to this verb in this context?

Explanation:
'persistieren' (which is anyhow an invention in German) is being used transitively here, which is not possible in (conventional) English.

I'd suggest something like 'as the DWH systems store the data from xxxx in your system in persistent form, ...'

If this is an accounting system or the data is accounting data, what is probably meant is that the stored data cannot be modified.

to persist

Explanation:
"persistieren" is a sometimes poor translation from the English "to persist", but in English it should be the correct technical term.

agree  Andrej: Im internen SAP-Woerterbuch gibt es leider keine Uebersetzung zu "persistieren" fuers Englische, aber jede Menge Ableitungen wie persistent Data, persistent class usw. Also "konstant machen".

agree  earthreptile: I work it IT and we talk about "data persisting" or "the persistence of data"
11 mins

disagree  Erik Brinkhof: This is about "die Systeme persistieren die Daten aus der DIDB in Ihren Systemen" - not about the persistence of data. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistence_(computer_science)

-> Of course, it is about the persistance of data! You should read the German sentence again. It says "die *Daten* aus der DIDB zum Monatsende in Ihren Systemen *persistieren*."

the transitiv usage of "persistieren" is not considered in the Duden; however one can understand trhat the author means: "....make the data persist ....

-> as derivations of the Latin word "persistere" persist in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese etc. maybe I have another understanding of "persistieren"
