German term

bei HSCT

German to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals Clinical study into Zalmoxis
The text is about using a pharmaceutical product (Zalmoxis) as an adjunctive therapy in HSCT. the paper compares the effects of performing DSCT with and without the additional administration of Zalmoxis. I am not sure how to translate the preposition "bei" in cases such as:

Nicht-Rückfalls-Mortalität (NRM) nach Immunrekonstitution (IR) bei Zalmoxis®-behandelten Patienten in kompletter Remission (CR) bei der Stammzelltransplantation (HSCT) (n=20)

Does this mean patients who are in complete remission at the time they have the HSCT? If so, why are they having the HSCT

Discussion

Stephen Old (asker) May 29, 2017:
Thanks for the contributions so far Nicht-Rückfalls-Mortalität = non-relapse mortality. I don't know if this is a clumsy translation into German but it seems to be accepted.
Herbmione Granger May 29, 2017:
bei Nicht-Rückfalls-Mortalität? sounds nicht-Deutsch. However, I read it as: No NRM after IR of Zalmoxis-treated patients in [complete remission (achieved) by the HSCT]. Thus, "bei HSCT" describes the remission.

at the time of HSCT

The prognosis following HSCT is much better if HSCT can be performed in a state of remission.

Re: Why do they receive HSCT if they have remitted anyway?
Because chemotherapy-induced remissions tend to be temporary (in particular with leukemia), and HSCT offers a chance of long-standing, sometimes even permanent remission.
Peer comment(s):

agree Herbmione Granger : Makes sense now; the treatment is a cure to render remission irrelevant but a taxing and risky one.
