Discussion

Non-ProZ.com May 12, 2005:
It's a description of a QA test for a fetoscopy shaft - the sentence is just a 'point form' description of the particular test.
MMUlr May 12, 2005:
@arum, Reiber reminds me of this Kudoz question: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1002356 - In this context you find "obturator" rather often ... (this without more context; could you give the whole paragraph where the terms appear? type of endoscope, surgery?

The 'distal end' I thought might be what was meant (logically contrasting with the 'shaft').
I did however find mention of a 'scraper' or 'abrader' in a patent, which is of course far closer to what the German word implies.
I can't however give you a 100% guarantee that it's what you're looking for.

neutral MMUlr : IMO scrapers or shavers / cutters are used during arthroscopy - for fetoscopy biopsies are taken by means of tiny forceps: http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&as_qdr=all&q=fetoscope ski...
