Discussion

Stephen Sadie (asker) Jan 2, 2006:
@richard: context is very sparse, but it may well include something about this
Richard Benham Jan 2, 2006:
FWIW Googling reveals that quite a lot of companies are growing "organisch und akquisitorisch". I assume the latter means by acquisition (of other companies). Could this be about takeovers?
Stephen Sadie (asker) Jan 2, 2006:

acquisitions

usually see this on financial pages as opposed to the adjective
Peer comment(s):

agree Richard Benham : True, but here it presumably means something like services in relation to acquisitions or something. Your answer may work in this particular text or not; it's hard to say from the context.

purchasing

Peer comment(s):

neutral Richard Benham : Duden gives two definitions of this, and they both relate to "acquiring" customers.... I can't find any better refs.//But see my comments to Stephen and mbrodie.

neutral Richard Benham : With Francis. Never believe anything you hear from a Saxophone.

neutral Ford Prefect : acquisitive is a derogation of people who like _acquiring_ stuff - people who are hooked on the consumption of material goods. It has too many negative connotations for this context, even if as a lit. translation it would work in other contexts.
