agree Philippa Smith : For me, "plunging" works perfectly, it's very evocative.

agree emiledgar : love "plunging"; great translation of "vertigineux" plunging views etc are often thought of as vertigo inducing.

cut dramatically low to the navel

Another option:

"dramatically low-cut to the navel"

agree Yolanda Broad : "dramatically" is a very good solution. :-)

navel reaching neckline

I would not bother with "vertigineux". The fact that the décolletage reaches the navel says enough about its depth.

eye-popping neckline down to the navel

I'm mostly trying to find a good solution for the "vertigineux" part, but I'm not really happy about the rest of my solution: it should be briefer.

ultra-deep plunging neckline

I don't think the reference to the navel is strictly necessary, 'ultra-deep plunging neckline' sums it all up!

plunging neckline reaches ( reaching to ) the midriff

I think this is sufficiently different to warrant a separate answer, even at this late stage. I much prefer the word midriff to navel or belly-button for fashion writing.

neutral B D Finch : I don't know about you, but my midriff is at least 6" north of my navel!

Oo-er, BD - one of us is a funny shape! :) For me, it's the Wikipedia definition (see link above), with the navel being in the middle of the midriff i.e. it's the bit that belly-dancers bare
