Does You can trade your goods at xxx shop mean You can sell your goods at xxz shop?

The shop is a secondhand shop.

Thank you for your help.

Daryo Aug 19, 2016:
the "shop" could aslo be some kind of "market place" i.e. a place where sellers (who are not necessarily professional traders) rent a small stall and sell directly to visitors, in fact if it wasn't for the mention of "shop" that would be my first association: some kind of "table top sale" / "car boot sale" / Sunday market and similar.

There are also shops that would take your goods and display them for sale - but your goods stay in your ownership until sold!

If someone buys them you get a proportion of the sale price, if no one wants them after some time you have to or you can take them back.

Also, you can "trade your goods" COULD also mean you can barter your goods!

Without the additional explanation "In this case, the shop purchases the goods and put it up for sale" it would be VERY far from obvious!

Port City Aug 17, 2016:
Seeing from the Asker's note on David's answer, I understand that your question is if you can use "trade" when you "sell" your goods TO the shop, where your sales proceeds come directly from the shop, not from the shop's customers through the shop. Then, "you can trade your goods at xxx shop" may be misleading, although it may not be wrong, because it sounds like you use the shop as an avenue for selling your goods. "The shop can purchase your goods and put them up for sale" or "You can sell your goods to the shop and they will put them up for sale" may be far less ambiguous than "You can trade your goods at xxx shop".

the idea is that you can take your goods to the shop and exchange them for something in the shop or just put them up for sale but in this case you would probably exchange them for something in the shop

the general meaning of "trade" is "buy/sell" but in this context there are a couple of options

"trade" is ok as it means buying and/or selling
Note from asker:
Thank you for your answer! In this case, the shop purchases the goods and put it up for sale. Can "trade" be used?
Thank you!!

agree Tina Vonhof (X) : As described in the context, it doesn't look like consignment so 'trade' would be ok.

neutral Daryo : wouldn't that mean just "offering for sale" and not purely and simply effectively selling it to a buyer?

Transfer of ownership of goods or services for money..

Trade, or commerce, involves the transfer of the ownership of goods or services, from one person or entity to another, in exchange for money, goods or services.

Thanks a lot!
disagree Daryo : technically correct, but unnecessarily complicated - no one would use it in this kind of text!

English term (edited): You can trade your goods at xxx shop

You can sell your goods to the xxx shop

with the additional explanation, it's simply that!

The fact that the shop will resell them doesn't change anything to your transaction with the shop - they are simply your buyer.
