Chinese term

富二代

Chinese to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
家族企業並不像外人所想的「富二代」 . . .

This is sometimes translated as the 'rich second generation.' While that is okay, it doesn't quite have the catchiness or ease of use of the Chinese. In addition, it doesn't really capture much of the connotation of the Chinese--the assumption that these people are spoiled or what not.

Thanks in advance.

Sharon Toh, MITI MCIL Jun 5, 2013:
IMHO... While there is the assumption that Fuerdai are pampered, spoiled or whatever, this is certainly not necessarily or 100% true. Neither did the literal wording of the Chinese term itself spell out the assumption. 'Silver spoon' generation sounds good to me as Fuerdai are indeed born with a silver spoon in their mouths.

That being said, if this term is going to be repeated throughout the text, you might want to consider using the name in Pinyin, i.e. Fuerdai followed by a brief explanation (and you might want to include the connotation if you like) in brackets during its first use and then simply Fuerdai throughout the rest of the texts. English allows borrowings of foreign words so long as they are properly defined or explained, isn't it?

EDITED TO ADD: You might also want to refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuerdai

What about "silver-spoon kids"?

Maybe there is some kind of irony-style...

Second-generation Rich

Short for "the second generation of the rich", I suppose.
Or just use "the second generation of the rich".
Example sentence:

Fuerdai (Chinese: 富二代; pinyin: Fù\'èrdài) is a Chinese term, which means \'the second generation of the rich\'. This term is currently often expressed in the Chinese media and everyday discussions in mainland China, as it incorporates some of the
