Spanish term

DIU

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) imaging reports
This abbreviation comes at the end of couple of medical reports, one is a summary of a clinic visit, the other is an ultrasound report (please excuse lack of accented letters!)

Context:

"Ecografia abdominal
...
...
Pancreas, ambos rinones y bazo de caracteristicas dentro de limites normales.
No evidencia de liquido libre abdominal.
DIU
CONCLUSION:
Lesiones focales hepaticas sugestivas de afectacion secundaria..."

I guess maybe diagnostico...plus something else...? impression, or maybe imagen. I'm just guessing here! It's not the reporter's initials. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Discussion

Robert Carter Sep 20, 2022:
@Dr Jane I'm sure it happens to us all. I did check your context first (ecografía abdominal) to make sure it wasn't somewhere else, although those things can sometimes get around too! (I happen to have just watched the rerun of House MD where the cause of the illness was a wandering 20-year-old IUD)

Often spoken as "diyu" in Mexico.
Note from asker:
Do you know, I was completely ignoring this abbreviation (the only one I know for DIU) because in my brain this is a report on cancer, and "nothing to do with contraception" but, or course, it is an ABDOMINAL ultrasound! Oh dear maybe it was that simple after all!
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : Yes, it has to be this. It's such a common abbreviation, I don't think they'd use it to mean anything else.

Intrauterine Device (IUD)

neutral Joseph Tein : when someone has already posted the same answer, what you should do is simply Agree with theirs; as Juan Jacob says: why repeat the same response? It doesn't help the asker.
