Exactly the source text Thomas, this is exactly the source text. And there are lots of similar examples! It is a very colloquial text.

Must be a source error.

I agree with Ines. Whatever the reasons for using this word, and the lowercase "s" suggests it may be a mistake, from the context it has to mean piste.
Mundart - colloquial local dialect spoken in Austria... different from (my) standard German (Hochdeutsch)

What's the source text? "Welche Skifahren sind für Familien geeignet" doesn't seem to make any sense - is this your source text or a made up example, Jo? I've never seen "Skifahren" used in the sense of "Skipisten" or "Skigebiete" (but it may well be that this is Austrian usage – even though I don't find any usage examples). To refer to the types of skiing I would expect something like "Welches Skifahren ist für Familien geeignet?"; I don't think there is a plural of das Skifahren.
Ines R. Oct 17, 2020:
skifahren = Skipisten Hallo Jo, ich glaube hier ist "Skipisten" gemeint. Welche Skipisten sind für Familien geeignet? Viele Grüsse Ines

What types of skiing are/would be suitable for families

I think "Skifahren" in the sentence quoted would be translated as "skiing" in this case.

neutral philgoddard : But surely it can't mean resorts AND slopes.

First, I did not write "and". But I've suggested what a "ski resort for families" probably means: "tracks, slopes for families (with children)". Second, maybe the Asker should choose the most helpful idea, according to his/her context
