Durante una plaga de peste negra, un ex militar - Mateo - regresa, honrando su palabra, para encontrar y sacar de la ciudad al hijo de un amigo fallecido. Mateo tuvo que huir de la ciudad para salvar su vida. La Inquisición le condenó a muerte por imprimir libros prohibidos.
Antes de conseguir su objetivo, Mateo es arrestado por los alguaciles del Inquisidor, quien promete perdonarle la vida a cambio de resolver una serie de crímenes con tintes diabólicos que se están produciendo en Sevilla.
Una investigación a vida o muerte en un entorno de represión pública y hedonismo privado; de misticismo y caos; de conventos relajados y burdeles reglamentados; de cárceles como escondite, de hospitales como tumbas; de traiciones y lealtades.

UN GRAN RETO, RESUCITAR LA PODEROSA SEVILLA DEL SIGLO XVI
La Peste es un thriller histórico de seis episodios
Cuando el proyecto comenzó y Domingo Corral de Movistar+ nos hizo llegar su interés para que desarrolláramos una serie no teníamos absolutamente nada. Únicamente una idea, muy escueta, que de una manera recurrente nos regresaba una y otra vez en los descansos de las jornadas de escritura de guión y de la que hablábamos muchas veces Rafael Cobos y yo: ¿cómo sería esta ciudad cuando era económicamente la más importante del Imperio? Siempre fantaseábamos con la posibilidad de caminar unos minutos por esa ciudad, aquella que hoy es la ciudad donde vivimos. Pensamos que sería un escenario fantástico para desarrollar un thriller.
Luego la historia fue haciéndose más y más rica a medida que íbamos buceando en la documentación, como si hubiésemos entrado en un mundo nuevo con unas reglas nuevas. Sevilla de pronto, se revelaba como un universo paralelo con unas reglas distintas y muy alejada de cualquier visión que hubiéramos podido tener en un principio.
A medida que las historias reales nos iban atrapando iban apareciendo más y más personajes: Monardes, Teresa, Eugenia,... fue creándose una trama cada vez más compleja que nos obligó a llevar la historia hacia algo más coral, y terminar intentando hacer una especie de fresco en torno a la ciudad y a aquella época.
Siempre tuvimos claro que queríamos rodar una historia sobre personajes anónimos, quizás hemos visto muchas historias de intrigas palaciegas pero creo que pocas de cómo se organizaba y vivía el ciudadano de a pie. Pretendíamos hacer el recorrido en esta serie de la mano de los personajes. Para eso pensamos desde el principio que debíamos abordar todo de una manera realista, buscando la mayor verosimilitud posible.
El Rodaje
Este ha sido, sin duda, el rodaje más complicado que he abordado nunca. Era una serie compleja porque ha requerido que nos organizáramos muy bien para rodar en multitud de decorados. También ha sido el rodaje más largo que nunca hemos abordado, en cuanto a días de trabajo, una auténtica maratón. Por el ritmo que demandaba la historia y por lo que tratábamos de abarcar con ella, hemos tenido que trabajar muy duro para que todas las piezas estuviesen en su sitio.
A la dificultad normal de un rodaje complejo como este, ha habido que añadir la complejidad de tener que inventarnos una ciudad que no existía ya hoy en día. Ha habido un gran trabajo de todos los departamentos para resucitar de una manera u otra esa ciudad.

A city where wealth flourished with ease thanks to international commerce, gold and silver; the coexistence of nationalists and foreigners: Christians, Jewish converts, Moors, slaves, the liberated, rogues, thieves, prostitutes, aristocrats and plebeians.
But it was also a city of shadows because of the inequality, famines, floods and epidemics.
During an epidemic of black plague, an ex military man – Mateo – returns, in honour of his word, to find and remove from the city, the son of a dead friend. Mateo had to flee the city to save his life. The Inquisition had condemned him to death for publishing forbidden books.
Before fulfilling his objective, Mateo is arrested by the sheriffs of the Inquisitor, who promises to spare him his life in return for solving a series of crimes with evil overtones that are taking place in Seville.
A life or death investigation, in an environment of public repression and private hedonism; of mysticism and chaos; of relaxed convents and controlled brothels; of prisons as hiding places and hospitals as graves; of betrayals and loyalties.
“HOW WAS THE PLAGUE SHOT?”
The shooting was carried out in more than 130 locations and more than 400 professional technicians, over 2,000 extras and almost 200 actors took part.

A GREAT CHALLENGE – REVIVING THE POWERFUL SEVILLE OF THE 16th CENTURY
The Plague is a historical thriller in six episodes
When the project began and Domingo Corral of Moviestar+ made us aware of his interest in developing a series, we had absolutely nothing. Only a very brief idea, that kept returning to us, again and again, in a recurring way , during breaks in the days of script writing and which Rafael Cobos and I spoke of many times: “What would this city have been like when it was economically the most significant of the Empire? We were always imagining the possibility of walking through that city for a few minutes, that which is today the city where we live. We thought it was a fantastic setting for developing a thriller.
Soon the story was becoming richer and richer as we were delving into documentation and it was as if we had entered a new world with new rules. Seville was suddenly revealing itself to be a parallel universe with its own rules and far removed from whatever vision we could ever have had at the beginning.
As the true stories captured our imagination, more and more characters appeared: Monardes, Teresa, Eugenia…..an increasingly complex plot was creating itself, which obliged us to make the story somewhat more choral, and finish trying to make a kind of freshness centred on the city and that period.
We were always clear that we wanted to shoot a story about anonymous characters; perhaps we have seen a lot of stories of palace intrigues, but I believe few portray how the ordinary citizen was organised and lived. It was our intention to put the journey of this series in the hands of the characters. And for that, we thought, from the start, that we should approach everything in a realistic way, seeking as much credibility as possible.
The Shooting
This has, without a doubt, been the most complicated shooting that I have ever dealt with. It was a complex series because it required us to organise ourselves very well for filming in a multitude of sets. It has also been the longest shooting we have ever dealt with, in terms of days worked, a real marathon. Because of the rhythm that the story demanded and because of what we were trying to cover in it, we had to work very hard to put all the key elements in their place.
To the usual difficulty of a complex shooting like this, the complexity of inventing a city that nowadays does not exist had to be added. There has been a great deal of work carried out by all departments to revive that city in one way or another.

Source text - German Kampf der Königinnen am Matterhorn
Es geht um den Titel «Reine du Cervin». Um diesen wetteifern im kommenden Sommer am Fusse des Matterhorns rund 100 gewichtige Eringerkühe. Das Publikum darf sich auf herzhafte Zweikämpfe freuen, die in der Matterhornarena im hinteren Dorfteil von Zermatt ausgetragen werden.
Eringerkühe sind eine Gebirgsrasse, die seit jeher im Wallis gezüchtet werden. Die meist schwarzen, imposant behornten Kühe verfügen über einen natürlichen Kampfinstinkt. Sie kreuzen die Hörner, um die Rangfolge innerhalb der Herde unter sich auszumachen. Dass die Tiere immer wieder teils heftig aneinandergeraten, liegt in deren Natur. Wenn sich die stolzen «Königinnen anlässlich der sogenannten regionalen Ringkuhkämpfe in den Arenen des Ober- und Unterwallis duellieren, sind grosses Spektakel und volle Zuschauerränge garantiert.
Ein Fest, reich an Folklore
Am Sonntag, 8. August 2021 sorgen die rauflustigen Hornträgerinnen anlässlich des Sommer-Ringkuhkampfs in der Matterhornarena nach 2018 ein zweites Mal für Wirbel und geben vor eindrücklicher Matterhorn-Kulisse wuchtige Kampfeinlagen zum Besten. Hinter den Absperrungen zum Rund fiebern die Eringerzüchter mit ihren kämpfenden Schützlingen mit.
Vor zwei Jahren lockte der touristisch-folkloristische Traditionsanlass im Matterhorndorf rund 4500 Schweizer wie auch internationale Gäste an. Sofern das Wetter mitspielt, rechnen die Organisatoren auch 2021 mit einer vergleichbaren Besucherschar. Gästen und Zuschauern wird während des Stechfests rund um die Natur-Arena ein attraktives Rahmenprogramm mit Live-Musik und einem breiten Verpflegungsangebot mit Walliser Spezialitäten geboten.
Programm und Regelwerk
Entsprechend ihrem Alter werden die Tiere in die drei Kategorien Rinder, Erstmelken und Kühe unterteilt. Ein Kampf gilt als verloren, wenn ein Tier den Kampf verweigert oder sich im Kampf von ihrer Gegnerin abwendet. Tiere, die in der Arena drei Kämpfe verloren haben, scheiden aus und werden von ihren Haltern aus dem Ring geführt. Die sieben am Schluss eines Durchgangs verbleibenden Tiere qualifizieren sich für den Finaldurchgang. Diejenige Kuh, welche sich im Finale gegen alle Kontrahentinnen durchsetzt, gilt als Gewinnerin und wird zur «Reine du Cervin» gekürt.
Der Eringerviehzucht-Verband inneres Nikolaital hat das Patronat des Turniers. Die Ausscheidungskämpfe in den verschiedenen Kategorien beginnen am Sonntagmorgen um 9.30 Uhr. Ab 15.00 Uhr am Sonntagnachmittag schreiten die Tiere schliesslich zu den Finaldurchgängen in die Arena. Der Erlös des Sommer-Ringkuhampfs kommt den Zermatter Alpgenossenschaften zum nachhaltigen Unterhalt der Infrastruktur zugute.

This summer it’s all about the title of “Reine du Cervin”, for which around 100 hefty Eringer cows will battle it out at the foot of the Matterhorn. The audience can look forward to hearty duels, which will be held in the Matterhorn Arena, on the far side of the village of Zermatt.
Eringer cows are a mountain breed that has always been reared in Valais, and the mostly black, imposingly horned cows have a natural fighting instinct. They cross horns to determine a pecking order in the herd among themselves, and it is in their nature to keep clashing, sometimes violently. A great spectacle and a packed audience are guaranteed when the proud “Queens” come to duel in celebration of the well-known regional cow battles in the arenas of Upper and Lower Valais.
A festival rich in folklore
On Sunday, the 8th August 2021, in celebration of the summer cow battle, the rowdy horn bearers will, for the second time since 2018, cause a stir and perform powerful battles in front of the impressive backdrop of the Matterhorn, while the Eringer breeders cheer on their combating protégées from behind the surrounding barricades.
Two years ago, the traditional tourist and folkloric event in Matterhorn village attracted around 4,500 Swiss, as well as international visitors, and, should the weather be on our side, the organisers also expect a similar attendance in 2021. During the “Stechfest”, visitors and spectators can enjoy an attractive supporting programme with live music and an extensive catering range offering specialities of Valais all around the natural arena.
Programme and guidelines
The animals will be divided into the three categories of cattle, first milking and cows in accordance with their age. A contest counts as lost if an animal refuses to take part or turns its back on its opponent. Animals that lose three contests in the arena will be eliminated and led from the ring by their owners. The seven remaining animals at the end of each round qualify for the final round. The cow that prevails in the final against all opponents will be classified as the winner and elected “Reine du Cervin”.
The Eringer Cattle Breeding Association of the inner Matter Valley bears patronage of the tournament. The deciding contests in the various categories begin on Sunday morning at 09:30. Finally, from 15:00 on Sunday afternoon, the animals will make their way to the final rounds in the arena. The proceeds from the Summer Cow Battle benefit the Alpine Cooperatives of Zermatt for the sustainable maintenance of the infrastructure.

Noch ganz frisch war die Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Live-Marketingagentur und dem Automobilhersteller und schon wurde erfolgreich die Nissan Champions-Tour umgesetzt. OBSESSION hat an 86 Tagen insgesamt 48 Händlerevents für Nissan realisiert im Vertriebszentrum West – von Bielefeld bis Darmstadt, mit über 800 Leads für den Verkauf. Von der Koordination mit den Händlern, über die Planung der Locations bis hin zur Stellung des Personals, hat OBSESSION einmal mehr seine Kompetenz in der Automobilbranche unter Beweis gestellt.
Einsatzgebiete für die Roadshows waren Autoausstellungen, Innenstadtfeste, Outletcenter, Neueröffnungen und viele mehr. Die Awareness der Marke Nissan erhöhen und das Thema Fußball Champions League in den Fokus stellen – Ziele erreicht! Über 25.000 Standbesucher konnten ein abwechslungsreiches Programm an den Eventtagen genießen, Probefahrten machen, sich in Champions League-Atmosphäre fotografieren lassen und ihr Geschick am Ball testen. Als Full-Service-Agentur war OBSESSION als verlässlicher Partner von der Konzeptausausarbeitung, der Touren- und Ablaufplanung, der Personalrecherche und -buchung bis hin zur Promotion-Schulung des Personals zuständig. Zudem wurde die Promotion-Aktion inklusive Ablaufkoordination und Überwachung, sowie Auf- und Abbau des Equipments und die qualifizierte Leadgenerierung durch OBSESSION umgesetzt. Nissan hatte die Möglichkeit, seine automobilen Stars in Szene zu setzen: der kompakte Pulsar, sowie die Nissan Crossover-Erfolgsmodelle Qashqai und Juke. Dafür wurde ein unterhaltsames Fußball-Programm auf die Beine gestellt, bei dem die Besucher ihre sportlichen Ambitionen unter Beweis stellen können – wie beim Robokeeper und bei der Fußball-Kofferraum-Challenge. Und in der Fotobox konnten sie sich gemeinsam in echter Stadionatmosphäre ablichten lassen. „Es war für uns eine sehr gelungene Veranstaltung. Wir konnten neue Interessenten für die Marke Nissan begeistern und haben dadurch gute Gespräche geführt. Ebenso hatten wir die Möglichkeit, Bestandskunden persönlich vor Ort Neuigkeiten von Nissan zu zeigen. Die Promotoren waren wirklich top! Sites used for the roadshows were motor shows, inner city festivals, outlet centres, new openings and much more. Increase awareness of the Nissan brand and focus on the theme of the Football Champions League – goals achieved! More than 25,000 visitors were able to enjoy a varied programme on the event days, take test drives, be photographed in the Champions League atmosphere and try out their skill on the ball. As a full-service agency, OBSESSION was, as a reliable partner, responsible from concept formulation, tour and schedule planning, staff recruitment and booking, through to promotional staff training. In addition, the promotional campaign, inclusive of schedule coordination and monitoring, as well as the assembly and dismantling of equipment and the qualified lead generation, was implemented by OBSESSION. Football-Car Boot-Challenge and Robokeeper

The Autohaus Hornbacher from Kelkheim commented, “It was a very successful event for us. We were able to inspire new potential buyers of the Nissan brand and, as a result, had some good discussions. Wer den 47-jährigen Geschäftsführer der ZERMATTERS trifft, merkt schnell, dass er da jemanden vor sich hat, der seinen Job mit Leidenschaft macht. Obwohl er seine Frau und seine Kinder während der Woche eher selten sieht, weil sie in Luzern wohnen. Am Wochenende trifft sich Familie Wälti dann in Zermatt, da wo andere hingehen, um Ferien zu machen.
Beat Wälti, wie sind die ZERMATTERS organisiert?
«Wir sind eine Genossenschaft mit 257 Genossenschafterinnen und Genossenschafter, in der Regel sind das patentierte Skilehrer, diplomierte Bergführer, diplomierte Bikeguides, diplomierte Wanderguides usw. Mit diesen arbeiten wir auf Vermittlungsbasis zusammen. Das heisst, wir suchen für unsere Kunden einen passenden Guide und vergeben so die Arbeit. Die meisten Genossenschafter sind im Sommer oder im Winter aktiv für uns. In einem normalen Winter haben wir zusätzlich 140 Hilfsskilehrer unter Vertrag. Dieses Jahr werden es aufgrund von Corona sicher weniger sein.
Wie viele Angestellte arbeiten in der Administration?
«Im Sommer sind es vier, im Winter sechs.»
2019 haben Sie den Arbeitsort von Luzern Tourismus mit dem Vierwaldstättersee nach Zermatt mit dem Matterhorn verlegt. Welche Region lässt sich besser vermarkten?
«Obwohl die Zentralschweiz mit der Stadt Luzern auch einiges zu bieten hat, hat mich das Hochgebirge immer fasziniert. Am jetzigen Arbeitsort Zermatt bin auch ich der Magie des Matterhorns erlegen. Das Matterhorn ist eine Ikone. Wenn ich mir aber die Region rund um Zermatt anschaue, beispielsweise die Schönbielhütte oder den Gornergrat, ist es das Gesamtpaket, welches mich total fasziniert. Es gibt hier so viele schöne und magische Plätze. Was mich an Zermatt ebenfalls fasziniert, ist die hohe Qualität, mit der hier Tourismus betrieben wird.»
Worin unterscheidet sich die Vermarktung von Luzern von der von Zermatt?
«In Luzern musste ich unter anderem viel politische Arbeit leisten. Wir haben die Stadt sowie alle Kantone rund herum vermarktet. Da fehlte mir manchmal die Nähe zum Produkt und den Leistungsträgern. Das ist in meiner aktuellen Aufgabe bei den ZERMATTERS völlig anders. Zudem war in Luzern nicht allen die Bedeutung des Tourismus für die Stadt und Region bewusst. Das ist in Zermatt ganz anders. Hier weiss man natürlich, dass der Tourismus die Einnahmensquelle Nummer 1 ist. Diese Tatsache hat mich letztlich neben der Faszination für das ganze Thema auch dazu bewogen, den Job als Geschäftsführer der ZERMATTERS anzunehmen.»
Welche der angebotenen Sportarten ist im Moment am meisten im Trend?
«Der ganze Bergsportbereich im Winter wie im Sommer ist sehr populär. Beim Bergsteigen sehe ich einige Trends, der ganze Ausbildungsbereich wird wichtiger, ebenso das Sportklettern, nicht zuletzt deswegen, weil Sportklettern bei den nächsten Olympischen Spielen erstmals olympische Disziplin sein wird. Ein weiterer Trend zeichnet sich im Winter ab: alle Freizeitaktivitäten ausserhalb der Pisten werden stärker nachgefragt werden. Diese Entwicklung wird diesen Winter durch Corona nochmals beschleunigt. Die Leute haben Sehnsucht nach freier, intakter und unberührter Natur. Skifahren bleibt im Winter aber natürlich Thema Nummer eins. Im Sommer sehen wir zudem Potenzial beim Bike- und Trail-Running.»
Welchen Stellenwert hat das Matterhorn bei der Vermarktung von Outdoor-Erlebnissen?
«Einen grossen für die ganze Destination. Ein Symbol, das man auf der ganzen Welt kennt, und ganz schnell mit Zermatt in Verbindung bringt. Für uns ist das Matterhorn der Türöffner in die ganze Welt der Aktivitäten.»
Als Geschäftsführer der Zermatters vermarkten Sie auch das weltberühmte Matterhorn?
«Ja, natürlich nutzen wir auch dessen Strahlkraft. Und ich bin begeistert, einen Teil dieser ganzen Geschichte rund ums Matterhorn zu sein. Dass wir Leuten aus aller Welt ermöglichen können auf das Matterhorn hochzusteigen, geführt von einheimischen, lokalen Bergführern, die wir vermitteln. Das macht mir neben viel Freude doch auch etwas stolz.»
Haben Sie das Matterhorn schon mal bestiegen?
«Ja, einmal. Mit dem einheimischen Bergführer Denis Gruber, jetziger Präsident des Bergführervereins Zermatt, hatte ich das Privileg, morgens als einer der Ersten den Berg hochzusteigen. Das war ein Erlebnis, welches ich nie mehr vergessen werde. Aber natürlich habe ich mich körperlich gut vorbereitet, bin viele Treppen hoch- und hinuntergelaufen. Hart war es trotzdem, bei der Besteigung des Matterhorns wird wohl die Luft für alle irgendwann etwas dünn. Ein Jahr später bestieg meine jüngere Tochter das Matterhorn. So konnten wir zusammen das Ganze nochmals Revue passieren lassen.»
Die Destination Zermatt setzt stark auf Mountainbike. Ist das die richtige Richtung?
«Ich habe den Eindruck, dass Mountainbike ein Trend ist, den man ernst nehmen muss. Allerdings muss man Mountainbike ein wenig segmentieren. Wir stellen aktuell ein Riesenzuwachs bei den E-Bikes fest. Ich denke, dort liegt für Zermatt eine sehr grosse Chance drin. Denn rein vom Biken ist Zermatt im Vergleich zu anderen Destinationen mit steilen Wegen eine recht anspruchsvolle Destination.»
Man sagt, dass die einheimischen Zermatter einen speziellen Charakter haben. Wie ist ihr Verhältnis zu den Einheimischen?
«Gut. Ich nehme die Menschen ernst und höre ihnen zu, erwarte dasselbe aber auch von ihnen.»
Sie sind jetzt etwas mehr als ein Jahr bei den ZERMATTERS. Welches Resümee würden sie nach einem Jahr ziehen?
«Ich habe zum Vornherein gewusst, dass die ZERMATTERS eine junge Organisation sind. Deshalb betrachte ich die ZERMATTERS auch ein wenig als ein touristisches Start-up, in dem man zwei traditionsreiche Unternehmen zusammengeführt hat. Dass da einiges auf mich zukommt, wusste ich. Dass ich aber nach einem Jahr und zwei Monaten schon ein Buch über meine Tätigkeit schrieben könnte, habe ich nicht zum Voraus geahnt…»
Vor Corona erlebte die Destination Zermatt einen Boom asiatischer Gäste. Wo vermissen Sie die diese Gäste?
«Die Tagestouristen nicht unbedingt. Aber es sind im Sommer die Bergsteiger aus Japan und Korea beispielsweise. Für sie ist es das Grösste einmal im Leben auf dem Matterhorn zu stehen. Fehlen tut uns natürlich auch der amerikanische Gast, welcher ganzjährig wichtig für Zermatt ist. Der asiatische Gast hingegen ist, was die Aktivitäten anbelangt, ein sehr junger Gast, der nicht unbedingt das Outdoor-Erlebnis sucht. Allerdings hatten die ZERMATTERS bis anhin noch nicht die richtigen Produkte für dieses Gästsegment im Angebot.»
Seit März 2019 leiden wir unter Corona. Wie hat sich das auf die (Geschäfts-)Tätigkeit den ZERMATTERS ausgewirkt?
«Es ist anspruchsvoller geworden. Wenn man es positiv betrachtet, ist es vielseitiger geworden. Es bricht ein Teil vom Ertrag weg, der budgetiert war. 140 angestellte Skilehrer hatten nach der Schliessung der Bergbahnen keine Aufträge mehr. Ebenso die 250 Genossenschafter mit Winteraktivitäten fielen in ein Vakuum. Für all diese Angelegenheiten musste an allen Ecken und Enden Lösungen gefunden werden. Wir hatten Sponsoren, die ihre Verträge mit den ZERMATTERS auflösten. Eine intensive Geschichte auf jeden Fall als Geschäftsführer. Corona hatte immerhin einen positiven Aspekt: Es beschleunigt Prozesse, wenn es darum ging, etwas zu reformieren. Ohne Corona hatte man tagelang über etwas diskutiert. Die Bereitschaft, gewisse Dinge zu verändern, ist wesentlich gestiegen.»

As soon as you meet the 47 year old CEO of Zermatters, the immediate impression is of a man who is passionate about his job. Although he rarely sees his wife and children during the week, because they live in Lucerne, the Wälti family meet up at the weekend in Zermatt, where others go on holiday.
Beat Wälti, how are the ZERMATTERS organised?
“We are a cooperative with 257 members, including, as a general rule, qualified ski instructors, not to mention, qualified mountain, biking and hiking guides and so on. We work together on an agency basis. That means we look for a suitable guide for our customers and allocate the job. The majority of our members are with us during summer or winter, and, in a normal winter, we will also have 140 assistant ski instructors under contract. Of course, there have been fewer this year, due to corona.
How many employees work in administration?
“There are four in summer, six in winter.”
In 2019 you relocated from Lucerne Tourism and Lake Lucerne to Zermatt and the Matterhorn. Which region is better to market?
“Although Central Switzerland, with the city of Lucerne, has plenty to offer, the high mountain ranges have always fascinated me. At Zermatt, my current workplace, I’ve also succumbed to the magic of the Matterhorn, which is iconic, but when I take a look around the region surrounding Zermatt, for example, the Schönbielhütte or the Gornergrat, the overall package totally enchants me. There are so many beautiful, magical spots, and what impresses me equally as much, is the high level of quality with which tourism is managed here.“
In what way does the marketing of Lucerne differ from that of Zermatt?
“In Lucerne, I had to carry out a lot of political work. We marketed the city, as well as all the surrounding cantons, so I sometimes lacked proximity to the product and service providers. My current role at ZERMATTERS is completely different, and, besides, not everyone in Lucerne was aware of the significance of tourism for the city and the region. It’s very different in Zermatt, because here you know that tourism is the number 1 source of revenue. Ultimately, it was this fact, together with the fascination for the whole concept that convinced me to take on the role as CEO of ZERMATTERS.”
Which of all the sports on offer is currently most on trend?
“The whole field of mountaineering is extremely popular, in winter and summer alike. I see certain trends in mountain climbing; the whole training sector is becoming more important, likewise sport climbing, not least because it is set to be an Olympic discipline for the first time at the next Olympic Games. There is a further trend emerging in winter: all leisure activities away from the slopes are in greater demand. Because of corona, this development will gain speed again this winter, as people have a craving for outdoor, unspoilt and pristine nature. Naturally, skiing will be always be number one in winter, but we also see potential for bike and trail-running in summer”.
How important is the Matterhorn in the marketing of outdoor experiences?
“Immensely so for the destination as a whole, it is a symbol that is known all over the world and very much associated with Zermatt. To us, the Matterhorn is the key to a whole world of activities.
As CEO of Zermatters, do you also market the world-famous Matterhorn?
“Yes, of course, we also make use of its appeal, and I am thrilled to be part of the whole history surrounding the Matterhorn. It makes me, not only very happy, but also rather proud that we can make it possible for people from all over the world to climb the Matterhorn, guided by locally-based, native mountain guides whom we arrange.”
Have you ever climbed the Matterhorn?
“Yes, once. I had the privilege of being one of the first to climb the mountain in the morning, with the local guide, Denis Gruber, the current President of the Zermatt Mountain Guide Association (Bergführervereins Zermatt). That was an experience I’ll never forget. Obviously, I was well-prepared physically, by running up and down a lot of stairs, but it was still tough climbing the Matterhorn as the air becomes rather thin for everyone, at some point. My younger daughter made the climb a year later, so we were able to look back on the whole experience together.”
As a destination, Zermatt relies heavily on mountain biking. Is that the right direction to take?
“I feel that mountain biking is a trend that should be taken seriously, although it should, to a certain extent, be segmented. We are currently experiencing a significant increase in E-Bikes, and I believe that presents a great opportunity for Zermatt, and because, for biking alone, and in comparison to other destinations with steep trails, Zermatt is a really challenging destination.”
They say that the local Zermatters have a special character. How is your relationship with the locals?
“Good. I take people seriously and listen to them, and expect the same from them in return.”
You have been at ZERMATTERS for just over a year now. How would you summarise your first year?
“I knew from the outset that ZERMATTERS was a young organisation, so viewed it rather like a tourism start-up, in which two traditional organisations have been brought together, and I knew there was still a lot more in store for me. However, I would never have anticipated that I could have written a book about my activities after a year and two months…”
Prior to corona Zermatt experienced a boom in Asian visitors. From where are you missing these visitors?
“The day tourists not so much, it is, for example, the climbers from Japan and Korea, and for them the greatest thing is to stand atop the Matterhorn at least one time in their lives. Of course, we are also missing the American visitor who is important to Zermatt all year round. The Asian visitor, on the other hand, is very young and not necessarily looking for the outdoor experience, as far as activities are concerned, though ZERMATTERS has not yet had the right products on offer for this visitor segment.”
Since March 2019, we have been suffering under corona. How has it impacted on the (business) activities of ZERMATTERS?
“It has been more demanding, but viewed positively, it has become more varied. We have lost part of our budgeted revenue and, following the closure of the mountain railways, 140 employed ski instructors no longer had any assignments; likewise, the 250 cooperative members offering winter activities fell into a vacuum and solutions had to be found in every nook and cranny for all these matters of concern. We had sponsors who dissolved their contracts with ZERMATTERS and it was an intense period as CEO. Corona did, however, have a positive aspect: it accelerated processes when something was in need of reformation. Prior to corona, we would spend all day long discussing matters, whereas now, the readiness to modify certain things has increased significantly.”

Für 500 Kunden der Citibank-Investmentcenter im Raum München wurde ein Börsenabend der besonderen Art veranstaltet. Die außergewöhnliche Herausforderung bestand darin, die informativen Vorträge der vier großen Fondgesellschaften Merrill Lynch, DWS, JPMorgan, Fidelity durch ein passendes Rahmenprogramm aufzulockern. Der Event wurde somit als Flugreise um die Welt konzipiert mit Landung in den 4 größten Börsenstandorten. Vorab wurden die Zieldestinationen Frankfurt, Moskau, Tokio und New York jeweils durch eine Diashow vorgestellt, gefolgt von einem börsenorientierten Vortrag und abgeschlossen durch jeweils eine städtespezifische Modenschau.

A special kind of stock market evening was held in the Munich area for 500 clients of the Citibank Investment Centre. The unusual challenge was to loosen up the informative talks of the four large fund companies Merril Lynch, DWS, JP Morgan and Fidelity with a suitable supporting programme. The event was conceived as an air trip around the world with touchdowns in the 4 biggest stock market locations. To begin with, each of the target destinations, Frankfurt, Moscow, Tokyo and New York, were presented in a slide show, followed by a stock market orientated talk and concluded with a city-specific fashion show.

Die 342 Parkapartments, am Belvedere auf Pylonen gestelzt, lassen ihre Bewohner Fernblicke über Wien genießen. Touristen und Geschäftsreisende, die coolen Lifestyle bevorzugen, werden sich im Hotel ANdAZ Vienna wohlfühlen. Beide Projekte stammen aus der Feder des italienischen Stararchitekten Renzo Piano. Bauherr des Komplexes ist SIGNA –
beim Hotel im Joint Venture mit der Hyatt Gruppe. Die umfangreichen Fliesenverlegearbeiten wurden von HB
Fliesen GmbH mit Produkten von Murexin ausgeführt.
Neben der architektonischen Besonderheit und der in jedem Detail durchdachten Ausstattung, ist es vor allem die besondere Lage im Quartier Belvedere, welche die Parkapartments zu einer begehrenswerten Adresse in Wien macht. Für HB Fliesen war die größte Herausforderung bei diesem Projekt, neben der immensen
Flächenleistung von rund 24.000 Quadratmetern, die
hohe Qualität der Verfliesung. Beispielsweise wurden Matrix Mosaike und hochwertige Großformatfliesen verlegt. „Die Logistik, um die Arbeiten in den fünf Türmen mit bis zu 19 Stockwerken reibungslos durchführen zu können, war nicht einfach zu bewerkstelligen“, berichtet Projektleiter Hubert Ledersteger. „Rasche Materialbereitstellung und flexible Lieferungen
waren unser Beitrag zum Gelingen des Projekts“, so Murexin Vertriebsleiter Peter Reischer. „Gerade bei einem derart umfangreichen Bauvorhaben müssen sich die Verarbeiter auf das Material verlassen können, um
den Kopf für andere Sachen frei zu haben.“
In den Parkapartments Belvedere und im Hotel Andaz Vienna verlegte und verfugte das Team von HB Fliesen rund 24.000 Quadratmeter Fliesen mit Murexin Produkten – darunter befanden sich auch aufwändige
Mosaike. Darüber hinaus wurden an die 5.000 Quadratmeter Rohboden mit Murexin Dickbeschichtung ausgeführt und zur Abdichtung von Wänden und Estrich kamen ebenfalls Produkte aus dem Hause Murexin zum Einsatz.

The 342 Parkapartments at Belvedere, strikingly elevated on supporting pillars, allow residents to enjoy distant views over Vienna. Tourists and business travellers, who prefer the cool lifestyle, will feel at home in the Hotel Andaz Vienna. Both projects stem from the pen of star Italian architect Renzo Piano. The building contractor of the complex is SIGNA – with the hotel a joint venture with the Hyatt Group. The extensive tiling work was carried out by HB Fliesen GmbH, with products supplied by Murexin.
In addition to the architectural features and the well thought-out fittings to the finest detail, it is, above all, the exceptional location in the Quartier Belvedere that makes the Parkapartments one of the most sought-after addresses in Vienna. For HB Fliesen, the greatest challenge with this project was, in addition to the immense surface area output of approximately 24.000 square metres, the high quality of the tiling necessary. For example, matrix mosaic and high quality, large format tiles were laid. „The logistics of carrying out the works in the five towers, with up to 19 storeys smoothly were not easy to achieve“, related Project Manager Hubert Ledersteger.
„Fast material supply and flexible deliveries were our contribution to the success of the project“, says Murexin Operations Manager Peter Reischer.
„Especially in such a substantial building project, the various processors involved need to be able to rely on the materials to keep the head clear for other matters.“
In the Parkapartments Belvedere and the Hotel Andaz Vienna, the HB Fliesen team laid and grouted approximately 24.000 square metres of tiles using Murexin products – among them expensive mosaics. In addition, 5.000 square metres of base flooring were finished with a Murexin heavy coating and Murexin products were also used for the sealing of the walls and screed.

Esta nueva pieza se inspira en la peculiar, intensa, y corta vida de los insectos creando una analogía con el aspecto efímero de la danza.
Actualmente estamos sumergidos en el proceso de creación en los Teatros del Canal, donde estrenaremos 24 y 25 de septiembre.
Podréis ver una muestra del proceso de creación el 15 de junio a las 18:00h en los Teatros del Canal.
RAREWALK
El solo de Elías Aguirre ya tiene forma.
Rarewalk es una composición que alude a un fenómeno inusual: insectos parasitados por un hongo y su analogía con los humanos; sobre cuerpos que pierden el control de sí mismos, sobre lo que nos guardamos: emociones, secretos, traumas que toman las riendas del sistema nervioso y de la expresión corporal.
Esta pieza se ha representado en varias salas de Madrid (San Chinarro, Sala Berlanga, Teatro Paco Rabal), y el 25 de mayo estará en la Nave del Duende de Cáceres y en el Congreso Ibérico de entomología en la UCM Madrid en julio.

Con motivo de las fiestas de San Isidro, el Ayuntamiento de Madrid nos ha propuesto realizar la JAM que organizamos anteriormente en el festival CUERPO ROMO.

Rarewalk is a composition that alludes to an unusual phenomenon: insects infested by a fungus and its analogy with humans; about bodies that lose control of themselves, about what we guard close to ourselves: emotions, secrets and traumas that take control of the nervous system and body expression. .
This piece has been performed in several venues in Madrid (San Chinarro, Sala Berlanga, Teatro Paco Rabal), and on the 25th May, will be at la Nave del Duende de Cáceres and at the Congreso Ibérico de entomología en la UCM Madrid in July.

On occasion of the San Isidro festivities, the City Council of Madrid has proposed to us that we carry out the JAM that we organized previously at the CUERPO ROMO festival.
It will take place on the 12th May, at 20:30 at the Plaza de Juan Goytisolo, opposite the Museo Reina Sofía with 5 incredible dancers: Chey Jurado, Dunya Naril, Maximiliano Sandford, Carla Diego and Mario González.

At the final stages of the chairlift to TOP-Wurmkogel, at the midpoint station, there is a rustic self-service restaurant, in Tyrolean style, furnished with an open fireplace, and immediately next door a Schirmbar (open air patio bar, with a large umbrella and protective screens). At the peak of the Wurmkogel, you will find the TOP Mountain Star, the 360 degree panoramic bar, which offers a glorious view of the mountain and the glaciers of Austria and Italy.
The new Top Mountain Crosspoint at the Timmelsjoch, High Alpine Road toll station, at approximately 2200 m, accommodates not only the new 10 seater cable car, the Kirchenkar hut and the new tollbooth, as well as a first-class restaurant, but also the new TOP Mountain Motorcycle Museum.
You will find, at 2580 m, our authentic, extremely comfortable ski hut Kirchenkar with open fireplace, an ice bar and a spacious, beautiful sun- terrace with a view of the Gurgler glacier and the Oetz Valley.

Wallfahrtskirchlein zur Kalten Herberge
Etwa eine halbe Stunde von Schmirn entfernt liegt oberhalb des Weilers Wildlahner, versteckt in einer Waldlichtung, das Wallfahrtskirchlein „Mariahilf in der Kalten Herberge“.
Die Entstehungslegende berichtet, ein Hirte habe an einem stürmischen Hebsttag unter einer großen Fichte eine wunderschöne Frau mit einem Kindlein sitzen gesehen. Voller Erbarmen rief ihr der Hirte zu: „Hast du da eine kalte Herberge!“ Da verschwand die Frau mit dem Kind. Nach einiger Zeit glaubte man, in ihr die Muttergottes erkannt zu haben.
Schon 1730 hatte man eine Holzkapelle erbaut, sie wurde bald darauf durch ein gemauertes Kirchlein ersetzt. Jedes Jahr am 26. Juli (Annatag) sowie jeden 13. des Monats von Mai bis Oktober werden Bittgänge unter großer Beteiligung der Bevölkerung zur Kalten Herberge unternommen.
Kirche St. Jakob
In einer idyllischen Landschaft auf einem Hügel, liegt westlich von Gries das spätromanische Kirchlein zu Ehren des Heiligen Jakobs, des Patrons der Pilger und Reisenden. Eine Urkunde aus dem Prämonstratenserstift Wilten berichtet, dass der im Wipptal begüterte Ritter Peter von Trautson, der im Jahre 1305 nach Santiago de Compostela pilgerte, das Kirchlein stiftete. St. Jakob wird heutzutage gerne von den Jakobswegpilgern besucht. Die Eingangstür zum Kirchlein ist immer geöffnet, wobei der direkte Zugang durch ein Gitter versperrt ist.
Kirche St. Kathrein
Hoch über dem Eingang ins Navistal blicken das Kirchlein von St. Kathrein und die Burgkapelle von Aufenstein herab ins Tal.
Aus den Steinen der einstigen Burg erbaute man 1474 die gotische Kirche zu St. Kathrein, die 1718 barockisiert wurde. Die ältesten erhalten gebliebenen Schnitzfiguren Nordtirols, eine wegen Diebstahlsgefahr leider nicht aufgestellte lebensgrosse frühgotische Verkündigungsgruppe aus dem frühen 14. Jhdt, war das kostbarste Juwel des Gotteshauses. Von der Kirche aus gelangt man in die Burgkapelle, wo 1909 Wandgemälde entdeckt wurden, die zunächst durch Vertäfelungen geschützt waren. Nach 17-jähriger Restaurierungsarbeit wurden diese bedeutenden frühgotischen Fresken freigelegt.
Kirche zum Hl. Josef
Zu den besonderen Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Gemeinde Schmirn gehört die große Pfarrkirche zum Heiligen Josef, welche 1757 von Franz de Paula Penz erbaut wurde. Besonders schön ist auch der Friedhof mit seinen kunstvollen schmiedeeisernen Kreuzen.
Das Innere der Kirche schmücken schwungvolle Rokokostukkaturen und die großartigen Fresken, die der aus Telfs stammende Barockmaler Anton Zoller, unterstützt von seinem Sohn Josef Anton, malte. In feierlichem Schwarz und Gold prunken die spätklassizistischen Altäre (1843). Das Hauptaltarblatt (Tod des Heiligen Josef) malte 1843 der aus Ried im Oberinntal stammende Nazarener Caspar Jele. Der Rokokosarkophag am linken Seitenaltar birgt den Leichnam des Heiligen Felix. Zu Weihnachten wird ein anmutiges Krippenrelief von Josef Bachlechner aufgestellt. Bemerkenswert ist auch das Ostergrab.
Kloster Maria Waldrast
Wallfahrtskirche (und höchstgelegenes Kloster Europas) auf 1638 m, Klosterkirche der Serviten. 1409 Baugenehmigung für Wallfahrtskirchlein. Terrakottareliefs der 14 Kreuzwegstationen auf dem alten Wallfahrerweg wurden von H. Buchgschwender erschaffen. 1429 Vollendung des Baus urkundlich erwähnt, 1465 geweiht, Umbau 1621 - 1624, 1621 Gründung des Klosters, klassiszistisches Langhaus, innen barocke Altäre, spätgotische Madonna mit Kind, Altarblatt Maria Himmelfahrt, Volksaltar mit Schmerzensmutter, Deckenfresko im Chor mit Darstellung der Auffindung des Gnadenbildes, Votivtafeln in der Votivkapelle.
Pfarrkirche in Pfons
Die Pfarrkirche Maria Himmelfahrt ist eine der ältesten Gotteshäuser Tirols im Gemeindegebiet von Pfons auf bronzezeitlichem Siedlungsgrund gelegen. 1311 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Frühmittelalterlicher Bau aus den Jahren 1000 bis 1250. Barockisierung in den Jahren 1754/55 nach den Plänen des Wiener Hofmalers Josef Adam Mölk, von dem auch die Deckenfresken (außer Chorfresko) stammen. Glanzstück der Ausstattung ist der Rokoko-Hochaltar im Stile ital. Säulenarchitektur mit hervorragenden weiß gefassten Schnitzfiguren.
Pfarrkirche in Matrei
Altehrwürdig ist die am östlichen Sillufer auf Pfoner Gemeindegebiet gelegene mächtige Pfarrkirche zu Unserer Lieben Frauen Maria Himmelfahrt. Sie weist trotz der tief greifenden Barockisierung noch romanische und vor allem gotische Bauelemente auf. Farbenfroh sind die Deckengemälde welche Karl VI zeigen, den Vater von Maria Theresia. Auf dem Hochaltar steht das verehrte Gnadenbild „Unser Herr im Elend“, eine 2 m große Ecce-Homo-Figur. Nennenswert ist auch der 3 m hohe aus Edelstahl und Bronze bestehender Weihwasserbrunnen, der 1996 vom Künstler Anton Amort errichtet wurde.
Pfarrkirche in St. Jodok
Die 1425 erbaute, ursprünglich gotische Pfarrkirche ist dem Hl. Jodok, einem Patron der Pilger und Wanderer, geweiht. Früher zog hier der Waren- und Personenverkehr vorbei, der durch das Schmirntal über das Tuxer Joch ins Zillertal bzw. über den Padauner Sattel zum Brenner ging. 1783/84 wurde die Kirche erweitert und barockisiert. Von Josef Schmutzer stammen die Kuppelfresken und die Bilder des Hochaltars.
Pfarrkirche in Steinach
Gleichsam wie ein mächtiger Dom erhebt sich an der Brennerstrasse die neuromanische Pfarrkirche zum Hl. Nothelfer Erasmus. Vom berühmten Ortskind Martin Knoller stammen der Hochaltar und die drei Altarbilder. Das 1337 erstmals genannte Gotteshaus wurde 1763 von Franz de Paula Penz erweitert und barockisiert. Als im Jahre 1853 ein verheerender Brand den Ort heimsuchte, wurde auch die Kirche ein Raub der Flammen. Nur dem Opfermut des Pfarrmessners Anton Stockhammer und der Gebrüder Strickner, ist es zu verdanken, dass der Hochaltar und die drei Altarbilder von Knoller gerettet wurden.
Pfarrkirche in Trins
Die Kirche zum Hl. Goerg, 1359 urkundlich erwähnt, wurde Ende des 15. Jhd neu gebaut und 1494 geweiht. 1835 wurde sie umgebaut und erweitert. Die 1890 von Georg Buchauer gemalten nazarenischen Deckengemälde wurden 1941 abgenommen, um die aus der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jhd stammenden Fresken von Anton Kirchebner freizulegen. Der Kirchenpatron ist über der Tür dargestellt. Im Turm hängen drei alte Glocken: die älteste vom Jahre 1500. In den Jahren 1986 bis 1988 wurde die Pfarrkriche renoviert.
Pfarrkirche in Gschnitz
Auch in der Gemeinde Gschnitz war der namhafte Baumeister Franz de Paula Penz für einige Bauten verantwortlich, so auch für die Errichtung der Kirche "zu unserer lieben Frau im Schnee". 1755 wurde diese dann ins Barock umgebaut. Noch heute lockt die Pfarrkriche viele Besucher aus Nah und Fern an. So ist es auch nicht verwunderlich, dass die Kirche gerne von Brautpaaren zur kirchlichen Trauung gewählt wird.
Sankt Nikolaus Kirche in Obernberg
Vor einer eindrucksvollen Gebirgskulisse, umrauscht von Lärchen und Birken, grüsst von einem Moränenhügel die Pfarrkirche zum hl. Nikolaus, dem Beschützer vor Gefahren des Hochwassers und Patron der armen Leute. Diese Kirche ist zweifellos eine der schönstgelegenen Kirchen Nordtirols und wird immer wieder von Fotografen als Motiv gewählt. Sie wurde im spätbarocken Stil in den Jahren 1760 und 1761 errichtet. Bereits 1339 wurde an selber Stelle urkundlich eine Kapelle dort erwähnt. Das "Wahrzeichen" der Gemeinde Obernberg sollen Sie jedenfalls besuchen.
Wallfahrtskirchlein St. Magdalena
Die geheimnisvolle Wallfahrtsstätte wurde 1307 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt, doch vermutet man dort schon eine vorchristliche Kultstätte. Tatsache ist, dass die romanischen Fresken aus der Zeit um 1200 zu den ältesten Wandmalereien Tirols zählen. St. Magdalena ist von Gschnitz aus in ca. 1,5 h Gehzeit zu erreichen. Jede Anstrengung wird durch die einmalige Lage und die traumhafte Aussicht belohnt. Von Mitte Mai bis Mitte Oktober ist St. Magdalena täglich von ca. 9:00 - 19:00 h geöffnet und bewirtschaftet. Übernachtungen von bis zu 10 Personen sind gegen Voranmeldung gerne möglich.
Dom zu St. Jakob
Die mächtige zweitürmige Fassade der Domkirche St. Jakob beherrscht den Domplatz im Nordwesten der Innsbrucker Hofburg. Der Innsbrucker Dom zählt zu den schönsten Werken hochbarocker Kirchenbaukunst. 1732 wurde der heutige Bau vollendet. Das Innere der Kirche ist besonders schön und prunkvoll. Egid Quirin Asam schnitt die reichen Stukkaturen im Stil der Übergangszeit Barock zum Rokoko. Die in dezenten Farben gehalteten Fresken sind dem Hl. Jakobus gewidmet. Im Chor reitet der Heilige als himmlischer Heerführer der Christen den Sarazenen in Spanien entgegen. Im Querschiff mahnt er zur Marienverehrung, im Langhaus tritt er als Fürbitter, der an seinem Altar in Santiago de Compostela betenden leidenden Menschheit auf. Die Flachkuppeln wurden zu illusionistisch hohen Kuppeln erweitert.
Wiltener Basilika
Die Wiltener Basilika ist eine Pfarr- und Wallfahrtskirche im Innsbrucker Stadtteil Wilten. Der Legende nach verehrten schon römische Legionäre des Kastells Veldidena an diesem Ort ein Marienbild. Das Kircheninnere ist ein Rausch zartester Farben, vermischt mit viel Gold und zierlichem Rokokostuck. Deckengemälde zeigen Szenen aus dem Leben Marias. Der Hochaltar mit seinen vier Säulen wird von einer riesigen Krone überdacht. Die Erhöhung zur päpstlichen Basilika erfolgte 1963. Gleich neben der Basilika befindet sich das Stift Wilten.

Pilgrimage church of Kalten Herberge
The pilgrimage church “Mariahilf in Kalten Herberge” is situated above the hamlet of Wildlahner, hidden in a forest clearing, approximately half an hour from Schmirn. The origin of the legend tells of a shepherd having seen, on a blustery autumn day, a beautiful lady with a little child sitting below a large spruce tree. Full of pity the shepherd called out to her: “that’s a cold shelter you have there!” At that moment the lady with the child vanished. Some time later, it was believed that she had seen the Mother of God.
A wooden chapel had already been built there in 1730, and would soon be replaced by a small, stone-built church. Every year on the 26th July (Anna day/Saint Anne), as well as on the 13th of each month from May until October, a large number of the inhabitants of Kalten Hergerge participate in processions.
St. Jakob Church
The late romanesque church, in honour of Saint Jakob, the patron of pilgrims and travellers, lies westerly from Gries amidst an idyllic landscape on a hill. A document from the Wilten Premonstratensian Monastery recounts that the wealthy Knight, Peter von Trautson, of Wipptal, who had made the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in the year 1305, founded the church. Nowadays, St.Jakob is visited with great fondness by the pilgrims on the St.Jakob route. The entrance door to the church is always open, whereupon direct access is through a locked grill.
St. Kathrein Church
The St.Kathrein Church and the mountain chapel of Aufenstein, situated high above the gateway to the Navistal, look down upon the valley.
The gothic Church of St.Kathrein was built in 1474 from the rock of the erstwhile mountain and converted to the baroque style in 1718. The oldest preserved and remaining carved figures in the northern Tyrol, a life-sized early gothic Annunciation group from the early 14th century, one of which is, unfortunately, not exhibited due to risk of theft, were the chapel’s most precious jewels. Following the church one arrives at the chapel where, in 1909, wall paintings were discovered, which were, initially, protected by wood panelling. These significant early Gothic frescos were newly exposed following a 17 year restoration work.
The Church of Saint Josef
The large parish church of Saint Josef, which was built in 1757 by Franz de Paula Penz, is part of the unique, historic places of interest to be found in the municipality of Schmirn; also of particular beauty is the graveyard with its ornate, wrought-iron crosses.
The interior of the church is boldly embellished by rococo stucco works and the superb frescos which were painted by the baroque artist Anton Zoller, native of Telfs, assisted by his son Josef Anton. The late classical period altars (1843) are resplendent in ceremonial black and gold. The principal altarpiece (the death of Saint Josef) was painted in 1843 by Nazarene Caspar Jele, native of Ried in Oberinntal. The rococo sarcophagus on the left side altar shelters the corpse of Saint Felix. At Christmas a charming nativity relief is displayed, while the Easter baroque grave is also remarkable.
The Maria Waldrast Monastery
A pilgrimage church (the highest situated in Europe) located at 1638 m, and the Minster of the servite order. Building permission was granted in 1409 for a pilgrimage church. Terracotta reliefs at the 14 Stations of the Cross on the old pilgrim’s route were created by H. Buchgchwender. Completion of the construction was noted in documentary evidence as being in 1429, sanctification took place in 1465 and reconstruction followed between 1621 and 1624; in 1621 the foundation of the monastery ensued with the classical nave, interior baroque altars, late Gothic Madonna with child, Maria Himmelfahrt altarpiece, the people’s altar with the Painful Mother, the ceiling fresco in chorus with a presentation of the discovery of the mercy images and votive tablets in the votive chapel.
The Parish Church in Pfons
The Parish Church Maria Himmelfahrt (Assumption of the Virgin Mary) is one of the oldest Tyrolean houses of prayer in the municipality of Pfons, situated on a Bronze Age era settlement ground, and was referred to in a document for the first time in 1311, with early medieval age construction over the years 1000 to 1250. It was converted to the baroque style in the years 1754/55 in accordance with the plans of the Viennese court painter Josef Adam Moelk, from whom the ceiling frescos (apart from the Choral fresco) also originate. The piece de resistance of the setting is the rococo High Altar in an Italian style, while of equal standing is the architecture incorporating columns with outstanding, mounted, white carved figures.
The Parish Church of Matrei
The mighty parish church of Our Dear Lady Maria Himmelfahrt, situated in the eastern municipality of Sillufer on Pfoner, is time-honoured. It is romantic in style and still exhibits Gothic architectural elements, despite its deeply profound baroque style. The ceiling frescos, which reveal KarlVI, the father of Maria Theresa, are colourful. The venerated mercy image “Our Lord in Adversity”, a 2 m sized ecce-homo figure stands at the High Altar, while also noteworthy is the 3 m high, holy water well, composed of bronze and steel, which was constructed in 1996 by the artist Anton Amort.
The Parish Church of Saint Jodok
The originally gothic parish church, constructed in 1425, is consecrated by Saint Jodok, a patron of pilgrims and roamers. Earlier, movement of goods and travellers would pass by here, which went through the Schmirntal, over the Tuxer Joch mountain pass in Zillertal or over the Padauner Sattel to Brenner. The church was expanded and was converted to the baroque in style in 1783/84; the dome frescos and the High Altar images originate from Josef Schmutzer.
The Parish Church of Steinach
Almost like a mighty cathedral, the neo-roman Parish Church of Saint Nothelfer Erasmus arises on the Brenner Pass. The High Altar and the three Altar images originate from the renowned Martin Knoller, a native of the area. First referred to as a House of the Lord in 1337, it was expanded and converted to the baroque style in 1763 by Franz de Paula Penz; then in the year 1853, a devastating fire befell the area, and the church was also consumed by flames. It was only thanks to the self-sacrifice of the parish vergers Anton Stockhammer and Brother Strickner that the High Altar and the three Altar images by Knoller were salvaged.
The Parish Church of Trins
The Church of Saint Georg, referred to in a document in 1359, was newly constructed at the end of the 15th century and consecrated in 1494. The Nazarene ceiling frescos, painted in 1890 by Georg Buchauer, were removed in 1941, in order to reveal the frescos by Anton Kirchebner, originating from the second half of the 18th century. The patron saint of the church is depicted above the door. There are three antiquarian bells hanging in the steeple, the oldest of which is from the year 1500. The Parish Church was renovated in the years 1986 to 1988.
The Parish Church of Gschnitz
As the notable master builder Franz de Paula Penz was responsible for some constructions in the municipality of Gschnitz, he was, therefore, also involved in the formation of the church “our dear lady in the snow”. It was subsequently converted to baroque style in 1755 and still entices many visitors today from near and far. It is also not surprising that the church is readily chosen by newlyweds for their wedding ceremonies.
The Church of Saint Nikolaus in Obernberg
The Parish Church of Saint Nikolaus, the protector from the perils of flood waters and patron of poor people, beckons from a striking mountain setting, amidst the rustle of larch and birch trees. This church is, undoubtedly, one of the most beautifully situated in the northern Tyrol and is chosen, time and again, by photographers as a setting. It was established in a late baroque style in the years 1760 and 1761, and documents already mention a chapel in the same position in 1339. This landmark of the Obernberg municipality should, in any case, be visited.
The Pilgrimage Church of Saint Magdalena
The mysterious pilgrimage site was referred to in documents, for the first time, in 1307, as there was presumed to have already been a pre-christian cult site there. It is a fact that the Romanesque frescos from the period of approximately 1200 count amongst the oldest of the Tyrol’s mural paintings. Saint Magdalena can be reached in approximately an hour and a half travelling time from Gschnitzt. Any effort made to visit will be rewarded by the unique location and the dreamlike view. Saint Magdalena is open daily and managed from 9.00 until 19.00 h from mid May to mid October. Overnight stays for up to 10 people are readily available by prior reservation.
The Cathedral of Saint Jakob
The striking twin-towered façade of the Saint Jakob Cathedral dominates the Cathedral Square in the north-west of the Innsbruck Hofburg (Palace). The Innsbruck Cathedral counts among the most beautiful works of high baroque church architecture and the current construction was completed in 1732. The interior of the church is especially beautiful and magnificent. Egid Quirin Asam carved the abundant stucco work in the style of the transitional period of baroque to rococo. The frescos, preserved in subtle colours, are dedicated to Saint Jakobus. In the choir, the Saint is riding as a heavenly general of the Christians against the Saracens in Spain. In the transept he urges devotion to the Virgin Mary, in the nave he enters as an intercessor, who would pray at his Altar in Santiago de Compostela for the suffering humanity. The shallow dome would later be expanded to illusionistically high cupolas.
The Wilten Basilica
The Wilten Basilica is a parish and pilgrimage church in the Wilten quarter of the city of Innsbruck. According to legend, Roman Legionnaires of the Castle Veldidena already worshipped an image of Madonna on this site. The interior of the church is a frenzy of mellow colours, mixed with much gold and delicate rococo features. The ceiling frescos display scenes from the life of Mary, while the High Altar, with its four columns, is covered by a vast crown. The exaltation to Papal Basilica followed in 1963. The Basilica Convent can be found next to the Basilica.

renommierten Hefte seit deren Veröffentlichung gefehlt! Mindestens mit einer Seite, später auch mit Doppelseiten unserer Anzeigen waren wir immer in diesen Medien dabei. Das ist Rekord! Wir wissen von einem BELLEVUE Leser, der das Magazin abonniert hatte, nur um keine unserer Anzeigen zu verpassen. Es waren immer Annoncen mit besonderen Immobilien, wie auch wieder in den aktuellen Heften.

Our advertisements have always been a feature of these two forms of media, with, at least, one page, and later double page spreads. And that is a record! We know of one BELLEVUE reader who subscribed to the magazine for the sole reason of not missing any of our adverts. There has always been advertising with special properties, just like in the current issues.
However, print material is only the prelude, you’ll hear the real music at an on the spot viewing. Because, we are known for always being good for a surprise and patience is one of our virtues. We are good listeners and always conduct ourselves in a fair Hanseatic way. That goes without saying.

Den enormen Besucherzustrom zur alljährlich stattfindenden Ferienmesse mittels öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln, insbesondere mit der U-Bahn, nutzte Austrian Airlines heuer zur Bewerbung der Messepräsenz und ihrer Destinationen über eine Out of Home-Sonderwerbeform der Gewista: der Brand Area. Die Brand Area verwandelte die hochfrequentierte U2-Bahnstation „Messe“ in eine Austrian Airlines-Erlebniswelt.
Neben dem Hinweis auf die Austrian Airlines-Messepräsenz bei der Ferienmesse Wien, wurden auf rund 145 m² gebrandeten Wandflächen der U-Bahnstation „Messe“ in Kombination mit Digitalen City Lights attraktive Destinationen wie Mauritius oder Kreta und weitere aktuelle Angebote mittels einladenden Sujets beworben. Die Brand Area ist das neueste Produkt der Gewista - eine Transport Media Inszenierung, welche Folierungen in den U-Bahnstationen, ergänzt durch Digitale City Lights ermöglicht. In der ersten Rolloutphase sind die stark frequentierten Stationen Stephansplatz, Schottenring, Karlsplatz, Messe Wien - hier sind additiv auch Digitale City Lights buchbar - Vienna International Centre, Neubaugasse und die Zieglergasse verfügbar. Die Brandingformate in den U-Bahnstationen reichen von 35 m2 bis 235 m2 und ergeben in Kombination mit den 80 und 32 Zoll großen Digitalen City Lights einen beeindruckenden Werbeauftritt. Der Standardbuchungszeitraum beträgt - analog zu den Digitalen City Lights, deren ganzer 60 Sekunden Loop inkludiert ist - 1 Woche, mit Starttag Montag. Weitere U-Bahnstationen werden folgen.

This year, Austrian Airlines used the enormous influx of visitors to the annual Ferienmesse by means of public transport, in particular, the U-Bahn, for the promotion of its exhibition presence and their destinations by way of a Gewista Out of Home special advertising format: The Brand Area. The Brand Area transformed the busy “Messe” U2 underground station into an Austrian Airlines world of experience.
In addition to the reference to the Austrian Airlines presence at the Ferienmesse Wien, appealing destinations like Mauritius or Crete and other current offers were advertised by means of tempting themes, in combination with Digital City Lights, on approximately 145 m2 of branded wall surfaces in the “Messe” underground station. The Brand Area is the newest product offered by Gewista – a transport media staging, which enables foliation brandings in the underground stations, complimented by Digital City Lights. In the first rollout phase, the heavily frequented stations of Stephansplatz, Schottenring, Karlsplatz, Messe Wien – Digital City Lights can also be booked here – Vienna International Centree, Neubaugasse and the Zieglergasse are available. The branding formats range from 35 m2 to 235 m2 and, in combination with the 80 and 32 inch sized Digital City Lights, produce an impressive advertising presence. 150 Jahre Brennerbahn
Die Brennerbahn zwischen Innsbruck und Bozen feiert in diesem Jahr ihr 150-jähriges Bestehen. Passend zum Thema stellt Hanns Jenewein sich und seine einzigartige Modelleisenbahnanlage in St. Jodok vor.
Hanns wuchs in St. Jodok auf, gleich neben der Brennerbahn. Sein Vater war wie er selbst bei der Bahn beschäftigt. Als Hanns ein kleiner Junge von 6 Jahren war, hatte er einen sehr intensiven Traum von einer elektrischen Spieleisenbahn. 1999 erfüllte sich Hanns endlich die Umsetzung seines Kindheitstraumes und begann einen großen Kellerraum im eigenen Haus in St. Jodok in eine Eisenbahn-Miniaturwelt umzugestalten. Jetzt, fast 20 Jahre später ist sein Werk vollendet.
Meisterleistung einer anderen Dimension
Der Bau der Brennereisenbahn, der damals steilsten Alpenbahn der Welt, brachte gewaltige Herausforderungen mit sich. Auf der 125 km langen Strecke zwischen Innsbruck und Bozen wurden 13 Brücken, 22 Tunnelbauten und viele Schutzgalerien gegen Steinschlag und Murbrüche errichtet. Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte des Eisenbahnbaus wurden sogenannte „Kehrtunnels“, also gekrümmte Tunnels, wie in St. Jodok gebaut. Zuständig für den Bahnbau war Ingenieur Carl von Etzel. Er verstarb noch vor der Vollendung der Brennerbahn an einem Herzinfarkt. Der enge Mitarbeiter Ing. Achille Thommen vollendete den Bahnbau.
20.000 Stunden – 20.000 Arbeiter
In der Miniatureisenbahn von Hanns sind die 96 Züge und 266 LED-Lichter über 7.000 m Draht elektronisch verbunden und werden zentral über einen Rechner gesteuert. Insgesamt 20.000 Stunden hat Hanns in das Projekt investiert und dabei 750 m Modelleisenbahn-Schienen verlegt, eine bunte Welt von Häusern, Bahnhöfen und Landschaften geschaffen.
Beim Bau der Brennerbahn erbrachten 20.000 namenlose Arbeiter erstaunliche Leistungen, 223 der Arbeiter verunglückten tödlich. Mit bescheidenen Arbeitsmitteln, wie Pickel, Schaufel, Winden und Flaschenzügen, und trotz der widrigen Verhältnisse, die im Alpengebiet vor allem im Winter herrschen, gelang die Fertigstellung in 3,5 Jahren. Die Brennerbahn wurde aufgrund einer Staatstrauer im Kaiserhaus nie offiziell eröffnet. Ab dem 24. August 1867 zischten und dampften Lokomotiven mit Personen- und Güterzügen durch das Wipptal und über den Brenner, der ab diesem Zeitpunkt Norden & Süden in kürzester Zeit verband.

The Brenner Railway between Innsbruck and Bozen (Bolzano) is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
Befitting the theme, Hanns Jenewein is introducing himself and his unique model railway system in St.Jodok.
Hanns grew up in St. Jodok right beside the Brenner Railway. His father was, like himself, employed at the railway. When Hanns was a young boy of 6, he had a very vivid dream about a toy electric railway. Finally, in 1999 Hanns fulfilled the realisation of his childhood dream and began to transform a large basement room in his own house in St. Jodok into a miniature railway world. Now, almost 20 years later his work is complete.
A Master Achievement of another Dimension
The construction of the Brenner Railway, at that time the steepest mountain railway in the world, brought tremendous challenges. On the 125 km long route between Innsbruck and Bozen (Bolzano) 13 bridges, 22 tunnel constructions and many protective balconies were built against falling rocks and mudflow. For the first time in the history of railway construction, the so-called “loop tunnels”, i.e. the curved tunnels, as in St. Jodok, were built. The engineer Carl von Etzel was responsible for the construction of the railway. He died of a heart attack just before the completion of the Brenner Railway. His close friend and colleague, the engineer Achille Thommen finished the construction.
20,000 Hours – 20,000 Workers
In Hanns’s miniature railway the 96 trains and 266 LED-lights are electronically connected over 7,000 m of wired cable and controlled centrally by a computer. In total, Hanns has invested 20,000 hours in the project, in the process, laying 750 m of model railway tracks and creating a colourful world of houses, railway stations and landscapes.
During construction of the Brenner Railway 20,000 anonymous workers produced astonishing results, though 223 of them were killed in accidents. With humble tools, such as pickaxes, shovels, winches and pulleys and despite the adverse conditions that prevail in the Alpine region, especially in winter, completion was achieved in three and a half years. The Brenner Railway was never officially opened due to a period of national mourning in the Imperial Household. As of the 24th August 1867 locomotives full of people, as well as goods trains hissed and steamed through the Wipptal and over the Brenner, which from this point in time linked north & south in the shortest space of time.
