Of course, there is nothing here suggesting secondary gains but there is nothing either that allows for ruling out of this possibility -or just any other. Yes, there is a correlation between stroke and bedbound status. And yet, as the statistics motto goes, "correlation does not imply causation".

Secondary Gains... ...is what liz is talking about. Taking advantage of one's medical status or diagnosis to reap various kinds of attention other benefits, which, on the surface, seems to be positive, for ex., as is found in cases of malingering, but because of which many caregivers end up feeling burnt out or resentful, in relation to the patient.

Maybe Bedridden/Bedbound status in this case? (rather than "condition", I mean).

As for the difference between bedbound and bedridden, although acknowledged, I feel we just have not enough info so as to simply go with bedridden here. In fact, I feel I would rather use bedbound -unless there is some other information that makes bedridden more suitable in this case. Just a feeling though.

* I have just added bed confinement status as answer after having read the "other" question... I agree that including context when asking is a must no matter what.

Bedridden Is The Correct Term... ...since this is a MEDICAL translation. And in the US, it would never be "bedridden STATE", but "bedridden CONDITION", as in a medically-caused condition.

Note that bedridden and bedbound are not identical [the difference...] is that bedridden is confined to bed because of infirmity or illness while bedbound is unable to leave one's bed for some reason". There is a subtle difference.
Afaik, prostrate has the additional meaning that you are also lying flat on your back or front (unable even to sit up)

Re context All possible context should be provided with every question regardless of any that may have been provided in previous questions. Not everybody will have been following any particular series of questions nor will they necessarily have the time to chase around looking for possible clues elsewhere. It is kind of Phil to have supplied it in this particular case, but this should not be taken for granted!

The context is in another question: "El señor Juan está siendo tratado por mi al presentar..." So "bedridden" doesn't work, though "bedridden state" does. But this is very vague - there must be a cause, and that cause is prostration, meaning debilitation.

'Prostration' is fine, as it is a commonly used term in this context.

If you want an alternative, then 'a state of exhaustion', or 'failure of function' would be suitable.

Bed confinement status

I have just seen "the other" question:

El senor Juan está siendo tratado por mí al presentar:

2. Estado de postración en cama

In this context, estado de postración en cama is a diagnosis. As such, bed confinement status -as per ICD-10 (see my comment in Refs)- might be the most appropriate here:
CIE-10: Z74.01 Situación de confinamiento en cama. Postrado en cama.
