French term

échos francs

FVA French to English Tech/Engineering Architecture Building acoustics

Discussion

Tony M May 19, 2020:
@ Asker Just out of curiosity, what term have you used for the first one? If the second definition hadn't followed, I'd initially have thought of that as 'flutter echo', but can't off the top of my head think what we'd call this first phenomenon?
Helene Tammik May 18, 2020:
The word that comes to my mind is "clear" as in, distinct and not muted/mingled with other sounds, like the first option.

flutter echo

Could it be this?

Flutter Echo. A condition that occurs in acoustic spaces when two parallel surfaces reflecting sound between one another are far enough apart that a listener hears the reflections between them as distinct echoes. The audible effect is in many cases a sort of “fluttering” sound as the echoes occur in rapid succession.

resounding echoes

A possible alternative to 'clear', since if they are not damped, they 'resound' or 're-sound'. OED has resounding as "Of a place: to ring or re-echo with sound."

neutral philgoddard : Isn't this a tautology?

Possibly, but Tony M has the correct answer.
disagree Tony M : Not the correct technical term for the phenomenon described.
