I have seen some suggestions in the Kudoz glossary but they were with respect to real estate. So I'm wondering if with respect to this specific type of document (marriage) there would be a very distinct translation for the same? I understand that the idea is of the parties 'granting powers as well as receiving' (there is also a mention of property/asset rights and duties) .Any suggestions?

Tautologies Be careful with tautologies, though. They are common, necessary and added ON PURPOSE for emphasis in official documents. Not translating them might likely not please your client.

An option? Not really, parties suffices. A literal translation verges on tautology.

An option How about "the declarants and reciprocally parties to the act" or "signatories and parties to this act". I'm suggesting this as the original sentence goes "compareceram as partes: outorgantes e reciprocamente outorgados".

Affidavit or Deed? Where the document in question is an Escritura Pública de União Estável (em Cartório), affidavit is not the best equivalent term for Escritura Pública. The correct translation is Deed or Notarial Deed.

There is no need to translate the source text word for word, which would be "grantors and grantees reciprocally", as the relationship/transaction between the parties is clear from the body of the deed. Parties is quite sufficient. ""the parties declared to me (...)"

deponents and mutual (AmE) deponees

Deponents, rather than grantors and grantees, if of an Affidavit - makers of a Notarial Deed (UK) vs. Instrument (US) where a Deed is used for a conveyance of land only.

I was originally going to suggest parties for the first term, but Mark R. beat me to it.



Example sentence:

Affiant definition is - one who swears to an affidavit; broadly : deponent.

urther that the deponee of the affidavit was fully aware of the date of award, and knew or was legally supposed to know what was contained in the award.
