Deutsch term

Schwerbehinderteneigenschaft

Deutsch > Englisch Marketing Personalwesen
When a company interviews applicants for an open position, they apparently have to ask him about "Schwerbehinderteneigenschaft" because the hiring of a severelly challenged employee entails certain formalities. Anyone know how to translate this?

Problem is... I can't work around the problem. I'm translating company guidelines on how to conduct an interview. The guidelines list a few things, and "Schwerbehinderteneigenschaft" is one of them. Just that one single word.

severe disability status

... might work. Depending on the context you might want to work around this term though.

agree RNolder (X) : in the U.S. it is illegal to ask that!

agree Melanie Nassar : severely challenged status. I entered it, but I don't think it really merits a separate entry. But disability is not politically correct AFAIK

agree Trudy Peters : To Rosemary: not if the person is entitled to special accommodations

agree Armorel Young : nothing wrong with disability as a term. In the UK "Are you registered disabled?" is a very common question on forms.

whether they have any (serious) disability

You probably have to explain this, whatever term is used. In England, for employment law purposes it is relevant whether someone has a disability defined under the Disability Discrimination Act, percentage disablement or seriousness of the disability does not come into this. And the wrong kind of questions at a job interview could be discrimation.
