Hola, compañeros:
Traduzco un libro sobre veganismo y al presentarse a los posibles lectores dice: «You might be a vegetarian, a vegan a meat reducer, or simply a believer or an ally». Entiendo que se refiere a las personas que reducen su consumo de carne, pero no sé si hay un término específico en español en lugar de optar por la explicación.
¿Hay algún término acuñado?

: Hi Mónica. Sorry, but I don't like this idea. "Pseudo" implies some sort of fakery going on; it sounds pejorative to me, perhaps something that a "real" vegetarian would contemptuously refer to a "meat reducer" as.

I am a meat reducer. I can’t stand that term, but I am. You might have another word for what I’m calling myself – perhaps a slightly more undesirable one....but as ridiculous as it sounds, the proper term is flexitarianism.

That seems to suggest that at least one "meat reducer" see himself as a "flexitarian".
As these are relatively new terms anyway, I don't really think there can be any hard-and-fast definition of "flexitarian". I, for one, know a lot of "smoke reducers", but I've never heard that term used before I just made it up now (as far as I know!). Most people say they're either smokers or non-smokers, but in reality many are somewhere in between, either because they don't want to or cannot actually stop smoking altogether.
Certainly, I think dictionaries will be revising and probably updating definitions of the term depending on how people use it, and "flexitariano" probably works much better in Spanish than "persona limitadora de carne" or something equally clumsy.
No es lo mismo, "Flexitarian" es alguien que no consume carne en su dieta habitual pero que ocasionalmente es flexible.
"Meat reducer" es alguien que reduce el consumo de carne en su dieta habitual.
