Spanish term

material de despunte

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing
Hello everyone,
I have a term from a manufacturing process to consult about. After cutting pieces or sheets of metal there is "material de despunte" left over. I understand that to be "scrap material". I looked in several places and found only references to despunte as in cutting plants, or a cool down in economics.
Has anyone encountered this term in the context of material that is not useful after it is cut from a larger piece?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Scrap Thanks to Neilmac and psicutrinius. After checking closer I can see that according to photographs of Swarf and Crop both are more specific than what was referenced to in my report. So far pieces of scrap will have to do. The terms will be useful in the future for words such as virutas de fierro which when searched in google images brings up the same pictures as for Swarf. And thank you to Lorenab23 for the references, they are from Chile where I am translating

swarf

Swarf, also known as chips or by other process-specific names (such as turnings, filings, or shavings), is pieces of metal, wood, or plastic that are the debris or waste resulting from machining, woodworking, or similar subtractive (material-removing) manufacturing processes.

CROP (steel making)

Agree with neilmac in most cases, but if steelmaking (ingot or hot rolling, etc) is the case, then the term is CROP:

CROP
The defective ends of a rolled or forged product which are cut off and discarded.
