We greatly appreciate your participation in this study.

There is some confusion.

Could you please explain what exactly is meant by "appreciate?"

Does it mean, we are "thankful or obliged or grateful to you"

or

We "commend, praise or applaud" your participation.

Thanks

"to value" [your participation]

In this context, it means "to value" [your participation] /"to show gratitude for your participation" /to be appreciative of your efforts in the study. It is really just a way of saying "thank you".
