German term

Gremium

Non-PRO German to English Other Journalism Press
"Das ist ein ziemlich wichtiges Projekt", sagte die Präsidentin des Gremiums, María Jesús San Segundo in Mailand."

I've googled this lady's name but I can't find any organisation that seems to fit in with "Gremium". What does this refer to?
Change log

Sep 2, 2011 14:13: philgoddard changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Sep 16, 2011 10:38: Susan Welsh Created KOG entry

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Susan Welsh, Murad AWAD, philgoddard

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

The answer is almost certainly in the previous sentence.
Jaime Hyland Sep 2, 2011:
Context? In particular, what does the initial "Das" refer to? And what's the general subject matter of the article?

committee/board/council

It's not a proper noun. What sort of body it is (committee, etc.), you have to learn from the context, or submit more context here.

Thanks, Alison--you did the detective work, you should get the points.
neutral Horst Huber (X) : Committee, board, council all belong to different worlds. The "Gremium" may not be exactly what the lady presides over, and she may be part of it "ex officio."
