Does "widmungswidrig" suggest we are dealing with a charitable organisation? In that case "contrary to the intent" or some such phrase should occur.

It is fairly common for companies to refuse to accept liability for any damage to property or person resulting from a product being used "for a purpose or in a manner other than that for which it was intended".

In other words, if a mad English person uses a tea tray as a sledge as we used to and crashes and injures themself, the manufacturers of the tea tray will not accept any responsibility because that is not what the tea tray was intended for.

(liability for) use other than its intended use, or use in an unusual manner

(There are two concepts here. Reducing the two to one is unnecessary, because it is not difficult to be literal in a manner which the author may well have intended.)
