la disposition des masses

public works - architecture
La méthode s’apparente à un curieux mélange entre un fort pragmatisme dans la disposition des masses et une richesse inépuisable dans la recherche graphique et esthétique de ces façades qui finissent par ressembler à des bas-reliefs.

Thanks kashew, however, if you mean my question on "masses baties", the context was different.

: Yes, "massing" refers to the volumetric aspects of the various elements of a building --or of a group of buildings. To some extent this can be determined from just looking at a building plan, but not completely. ...Yes, the visual impact of the volumes.

Thanks Christopher. Yes, and massing of buildings can, especially when used by town planners, include visual impact.

a pragmatic distribution/allocation of masses
Jonathan is right about "disposition"= "arrangement/layout" --though "distribution" might be more appropriate.
David is right about "masses" referring to the the three-dimensional volumes of the architecture (which are not necessarily or completely evident from a view of just the plan) --though "masses" is a perfectly appropriate architectural term.

No, she didn't; "pragmatic" was a freebee I just threw in (because it is not immediately what it might refer to in this context). Thanks, phil.
