English term

flight operations

English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
*** oversaw finance, HR, IT, and flight operations for the company.

The company produces ethanol. Why does it involve flight operations?

Discussion

Sheila Wilson Jan 24, 2010:
Thanks, Mark It still seems odd that one person should be overseeing such a wide range of activities in a large company, but we seem to have all the info now.
Mark Chen (asker) Jan 24, 2010:
The CMO of this company used to oversaw...in a leading U.S. ethanol plant engineering, design, and build firm.
Mark Chen (asker) Jan 24, 2010:
The CEO of this company used to oversaw...in another company.
Sheila Wilson Jan 24, 2010:
Another question, Mark You say it's a business plan: is this for the ethanol-producing company? The context you give says "overSAW" ie past tense. Could this be referring to responsibilities in a previous company eg executive jet hire? It seems to be a very small co. hence my idea of a taxi firm but using jets.
Mark Chen (asker) Jan 24, 2010:
Sorry for the late reply. It is not a CV. It is a short introduction of a person in a business plan. It mentions no aircraft at all .
Sheila Wilson Jan 23, 2010:
Do you have any answers to these questions? Is this a CV? How big is the company? Is there any mention anywhere of planes, aviation fuel, executive jets, ...?

The movements of the company's aircraft

So my answer is the same as Teresa's really, except that hers was in German.

agree JaneD : without more context, seems the most probable

Thank you.
agree Trudy Peters : That's my understanding as well

Thank you.
neutral Sheila Wilson : The problem is that this seems a tiny (3-4 employees perhaps?) company, if this person is responsible for so much. Such small cos. don't normally have flight operations' responsibilities

operation of capital

flight here means capital, so in this context it means operating or maneuvering the company's capital.

neutral Sheila Wilson : You need to look more carefully at your link, Yasutomo. The flight there refers to capital that flees a country

disagree Teresa Reinhardt : This would be an extremely unusal term

I believe that's why the asker has posted this question, being unable to relate manufacturing of ethanol and flight operations.

Flugbetrieb

I'm going to guess that they have corporate jets that someone has to be responsible for. And since the person already has quite a wide range of responsibilties...
Peer comment(s):

disagree Yasutomo Kanazawa : Sorry to disagree with you Teresa, but this is an English monolingual question.

flight testing operations/flight operations for ethanol testing

The below website is a report on ethanol fuel.

http://www.p2pays.org/ref/35/34811.pdf

In the first paragraph, it mentions how "the use of ethanol in flight training operations would best establish the economic viability of ethanol while avoiding distribution problems."

Apparently there is a lot of testing of ethanol through flight testing to determine its performance, reliability, etc.

agree Stephanie Ezrol : this seems to fit Mark's further explanations

oversees air traffic movements...

In a company that's involved with aircraft, flight operation techs are critical:
