Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature / Title of a story
Russian term or phrase: "Все сначала" (название повести Вячеслвав Пьецуха)
"Все сначала" is quite recent, it appeared in "Октябрь" last year. The plot evidently involves some guys attempting to implement N. Fyodorov's schemes for the resurrection of the dead. One of them is a descendant of a colleague of Fyodorov, who has a machine that - given one atom from a piece of clothing belonging to a deceased person - can attract, like a magnet, all the other missing atoms. So they try this out with a glove which belonged to Tsar Pavel I.

I would like to give the title (in an interview with the author, where this is mentioned) in a way which would actually work for the story, which I haven't read. As a first draft I wrote "Everything from the Beginning", which sounds bad. But I don't know which other possibilities would work: "Starting Over", "It All Starts Over", "Everything from the Top", "Take It from the Top", etc.

Please reply only if you've read it.

I went and read the story. Your guess is very appropriate. The phrase comes from several passages in the story:

"Everything from the beginning"

Explanation:
A guess, too.
I'd prefer as simple version as the original is.

agree  Henry Schroeder: "One more shot" might also be possible, hard to say, but these or variations of them sound okay...

...start again at your beginnings...

Explanation:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

All the same // once again // All the same once again

Explanation:
Dear Rachel,

Thank you for this question: I had a chance to read this story, which I either haven't read or have completely forgotten. It is not about about starting something again; it is rather a story of eternal Russian double consciousness: do be and live here, and at the same time, somwhere outside the time and space.

It is about a man who wants to improve the situation in Russia by resurrecting great people of old times. However, instead of resurrecting Pavel I, he brings back to life a drunken duelist of a little later period. He is very distressed, so he drinks vodka with his friends and plans how it could be possible to save mankind in the case of the Sun explosion.

It is hard to say, if the story is pessimistic or optimistic. Neither it is possible to say, what or who starts over again, so I would propose the most neutral translation.
