German term

Aufdatung

German to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Software
In an IT context (software specification) the heading "Datenmigration und Aufdatung" occurs. The explanation I've been given for "Aufdatung" is "Erstbefüllung mit vorhandenen, inhaltlich vernünftigen Daten"; the translation I've already used is "initial provision of data", although I'm wondering whether an IT term for this exists or whether it could be rendered differently. Any help appreciated!

loading or uploading of data

I can't find Aufdatung in the microsoft glossary, but it sounds like loading new data into a system.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to all of you for your replies. In the context, "loading of data" (i.e. loading of new data) seems to make the most sense, although there is something to be said for some of the other replies. It's a pity I can't split the points! "

population

This is a standard term in USA computerese for filling up a database or tabel with data. The fields in the table or database are filled, i.e. that is they get "resident data" assigned to them.

i'm not into IT,
rather learning from 'words' (thank you).
But, does 'population' take 'Erst-' into account?
