Bisher sollte der Benutzer unterstützt werden

My question relates to the first sentence here, specifically the subject of this sentence. I'm assuming that "Eingabehilfen" is the subject here, nicht wahr, in that it provides support to the user when he or she is entering values into input fields? Is this clearer to anyone else?

Until now [in the past] the aim has been to help the user

If you question about the subject of the sentence is a grammatical one then no, Eingabehilfen is not the subject. The grammatical subject is "der Benutzer" (is nominative, so must be the subject) and the sentence is in the passive. In the passive structure the subject "undergoes" the action of the verb. So literally "the user is to be supported with the aid of the Eingabehilfen in concretely entering values in input fields). English would almost certainly make an active sentence of it - perhaps along the lines of "the Eingabehilfen help the user to do xx"

Note from asker:
Hi Armorel, thanks. Sorry, yes, of course you're right about "der Benutzer" being the subject. What I meant was that the input help would be the subject in English, i.e. it's the input help that supports or helps the user to enter values in input fields. Sorry, should have been clearer. Will assign points as soon as I'm allowed to do so.
