fashion blog
This is from a fashion blog. Is there a more interesting translation than "bright yellow" for this shade?
"„Schreiend-Gelb“ und „Grashüpfer-Grün“ sind DIE Modefarben dieses Herbstes, am besten großzügig miteinander kombiniert. Etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig."

This literal translation also googles well.

strident yellow
Would be one possibility, although I'll be the first to admit that "strident" can have negative implications

: I think 'gaudy' is a criticism, ie is pejorative, and unlikely to be used in this way. it also sounds a bit too Shakespearean to me - thinks Malvolio's cross-gartered yellow stockings./Sorry, but as a BENS I call tell you that it is.

I don't think 'gaudy' is pejorative. Just try googling 'gaudy'+'fashion'...

dayglo yellow
We used to call colours like this 'dayglo' when I was a kid - admittedly a few years ago, but if retro's not fashionable, what is? :-)
See 'The day the world turned dayglo'.

brilliant yellow
I actually like all the other terms suggested, but this is a little more positive and a little stronger than 'bright' yellow. That said, I wonder if the negativity of 'schreiend' isn't intentional, given that the writer goes on to say 'Etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig', in which case strident or screaming would be fine...

loud, vibrant
I think "loud" would be the appropriate translation for this, especially as "schreiend" is similarly colloquial in German. Or maybe "vibrant" would be more neutral.
Example sentence:
a loud shade of yellow

bright yellow
I would stick to bright yellow. Maybe it's not as imaginative or creative as the suggestions you have had so far, but I think it is the only one which doesn't sound somehow artificial.
I have googled some fahion pages, and **bright** is used a lot (along with **buttercup**, **lemon**, **canary**, ...which I suppose are a little too tame ;-)
