femoral condyles
IMI sind hier die Femurkondylen gemeint, i.e. "exposure of the femoral condyles". Danach geht's dann weiter mit der Femurresektion, Tibiaresektion, Probereposition und Implantation der Prothese - sofern es sich in Deinem Fall um ein Knieimplantat handelt ;-)

Sorry, Heart - I answered in German ;-)
IMO the term you're looking for refers to the anatomical femur (=> "exposure of the femoral condyles") and not to a design feature of an implant (=> "sliding surface" or "articular surface")...

Note from asker:
Kein Problem! I got your point! You are really knowledgeable in this field. |

: Absolutely right, even though it is somewhat unusual for the original not to use "Femurkondylen", too.

Danke, Cetacea - I fully agree with your remark ;-)

Anne Schulz
: I'd vote for the "articular surface" you mentioned - that is appropriate for artificial as well as for anatomical structures, and highlights the functional aspect as the German "Gleitfläche".

Perfect suggestion, Anne - thanks ;-)

Comment: "Thanks for the expertise and for noticing this term referred simply to the anatomical aspect. But thanks to the others whose terms would be appropriate in other contexts (the actual implant)"

: but most texts I have seen dont have the surface only state femoral sliding. The sliding being a "thing" on it own :-)

: Ought to be, yes, but "sliding surface" is very rarely used when referring to the anatomical femur.
