Russian to English translations [PRO]
Geography / Moscow street names
Russian term or phrase: Bol'shaja Presnaja
Bol'shaja Presnaja
Mahammad Kalfat (X)
Local time: 11:29
English translation:please see below
Explanation:
The street is named after Presnya, a small river, left influx of the Moskva river. The name of the river is pretty clear, it means "sweet water".

What about "Bol'shaja" (which means "Big"): in Russia adjacent streets (one of which is somewhat smaller, narrower or shorter) are called sometimes Big [some_name] and Small [some_name].

If you can read Russian, here is a link to a webpage with an explanation:
Пресня. Левый приток Москвы. Здесь же Пресненские пруды. Очень прозрачное название: по пресному, сладковатому вкусу воды
