Spanish term

carreras experimentales

Spanish to English Other Higher Education
Does anyone know if "experimental degrees" would make sense to an English reader? It gets several hits on Google, but mainly from Spanish websites, which makes me wonder.....
The sentence goes as follows:
"Siguiendo este objetivo, en las universidades andaluzas se han creado Unidades de Orientación para el Empleo de Universitarias (Univertecna), en colaboración con el Instituto Andaluz de la Mujer, con el fin de facilitar el acceso al empleo de mujeres tituladas, especialmente de carreras técnicas y experimentales"
Many thanks,
Paul

women with a university degree especially in technical and experimental

fields.
Experimental can also be researching
I have never heard of experimental careers (at least in the USA).
Peer comment(s):

agree tazdog (X) : some refs. in Spanish specifically associate laboratories with these "carreras," so they probably do involve lab experiments. I think this would work.

agree Russell Gillis : I think this can be solved by putting "disciplines" at the end (technical and experimental disciplines).

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I'm still not sure what this means, and I've asked my client to check up on the exact meaning. However, for the moment I've used your suggestion as it makes sense and is "wide" enough to include many ideas. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. As always, they are very much appreciated. All the best, Paul"

I think it\'s fine. The term is also used in non-Spanish websites:

Peer comment(s):

neutral Esdena : but in some cases the "experimental" refers to the fact that the degree itself is experimental, that is some combination or innovation, not that there is a group of careers called "experimental careers"

research

if "experimental career" means a career spent experimenting then very few native english speakers would know that that was what was intended. And even if literally possible, it is just so ugly!!If you want to talk of a career looking for a cure for the common cold for example, you would talk of a career in research.
