Сергей Лузан Jul 25, 2006:
´drogueria´ in Spain is not the same as ´drugstore´in the USA :), i.e. chemist´s or pharmacy

tangotrans (asker) Jul 24, 2006:
The text is from Spain
tangotrans (asker) Jul 24, 2006:
This is for the UK market
Henry Hinds Jul 24, 2006:
tangotrans (asker) Jul 24, 2006:

perfume shop and chemist's

You asked for UK English, didn't you? A chemist's is about the closest you're going to get to "drogueria" for a one-word translation, although they're not actually the same. The two are very often combined into one shop anyway.

Gracias, Miguel.
agree Anne Spence : I agree with this for UK English, but drugstore would be better for US English

Of course, no red-blooded American would know what the heck a chemist's was! Thanks, Anne.

perfume shop and drug store

"drogueria" is sometimes used in spanglish to designate a drug store (botica). Perfumeria is a perfume shop.
Peer comment(s):

agree Diego Cruz, MD : literalmente sería perfume shop vs. drugstore

agree Marcelo González : Careful with your explanations; "drogueria" is accepted by the RAE (and perhaps should not be classified as "spanglish").

Drugstore

In the United States "drugstore" is for both. Wallgreens is a chain "drugstore" with a "pharmacy" department to sell prescription drugs, but they also sell many brands of perfumes and cosmetics, cleaning products, photo shop, greeting cards, etc. etc.
