This is the straight translation. Both words have the same root and the following meanings:
In English, from Webster's:
Bachelor of Arts (or Science, etc.)
1 a degree given by a college or university to a person who has completed a four-year course or its equivalent in the humanities or related studies (or in science, etc.): also bachelor's degree
2 a person who holds this degree
In Portuguese, from Aurelio (no. 1 applies):
[Do fr. bachelier < b.-lat baccalariu.]
S. m.
1. Indivíduo que concluiu o primeiro grau universitário. [Cf. doutor (1) e mestre (13)] : 2
2. Bras. Restr. Indivíduo formado em Direito. [Cf., nesta acepç., advogado (1).]
[Pl.: bacharéis.]

There was no answer posted when I starded to work in my answer, which involved the search for meanings in a Portuguese and an English dictionaries. This is what made the difference, both in answering time and recognition by the asker. Have a good day.

My answer was given 3 minutes after the question was posted and the chosen answer, which is the same as mine, as posted 7 (SEVEN) minutes after the question as posted, and 3 (THREE) MINUTES after mine.
So, I do believe that answerers should check before posting if someone else has already posted the same answer before
