So what is this Havok FX business, exactly? It's a new part of the Havok software physics API that can do some rigid-body physics and some particle physics on any Shader Model 3.0 capable graphics card. All Havok licensees should get it this summer, though betas will likely go out earlier. Of course, just because they get the code as part of the Havok 4.0 developer kit, doesn't mean every game developer will use it. Right now, it's unclear whether the GPU-enabled physics acceleration will be used just for "eye candy" effects, or for "real gameplay physics." The difference is that the former type is physics where the game doesn't actually need to know the state and location of the physically simulated object. Havok also provides all kinds of physics solutions for character animation, vehicle dynamics, and much more.
