W.H. Auden
hello!
my author uses a w.h. auden quote in german but read it in a book that quoted auden so neither of us know where exactly the quote is from. i found the following in german:
i need to know what
is in english!!
i hope there are some serious auden readers at proz!!
millions of thanks in advance!

: Is that the original quote? It can't be found anywhere on the internet - besides "dauerhafte Gefuehle" is not "deep feelings"

Auden quote in the original
enduring emotion
The capacity to experience enduring emotion is rare
I've no doubt you could track down the original quote if you had the time. If this is intended for broader publication I would recommend that. If it's for a more limited audience I'm sure you'd get away with your own re-translation - in that case this is how I suggest translating this sentence.

the quote is also to be found in Donald Goodwin's Alcohol and the Writer!
the (german) author wanted to help me find the quote, but just today he said he wasn't able to. so i am under some time pressure! i realize that this is a tall request, but i thought i would try anyway!!! thanks!
