Eye drops or ointment containing an antibiotic medication are placed in a newborn’s eyes after birth. This is required by law to protect the baby from an unknown gonorrhea infection in the mother’s body. Antibiotics are used in most hospitals. Another preparation, called silver nitrate, is sometimes used.

Silver nitrate

I remember a teacher at school who told us that they use that on baby's eyes as soon as they are born in case the mother suffer an STD, but I can't remember exactly what disease it was, I'm researching though.

Estoy de acuerdo con las explicaciones anteriores. La traducción es nitrato de plata. Ag es el símbolo de la plata y NO3 es nitrato.
