This has been happening for a while, but never to the extent that it bothered me. I notice another forum post on the same subject, but it did not get resolved.
This is an example of the problem.
Searching for Russian to English, i enter the search term прапорщик.
1. Entered as is, no quote marks, and the two options unchecked: 55,850 results.
2. Entered with quote marks, the two options unchecked: 12 results, none of which contain the ... See more This has been happening for a while, but never to the extent that it bothered me. I notice another forum post on the same subject, but it did not get resolved.

Searching for Russian to English, i enter the search term прапорщик.
1. Entered as is, no quote marks, and the two options unchecked: 55,850 results.
2. Entered with quote marks, the two options unchecked: 12 results, none of which contain the required term.
3. Entered without quote marks, checking "whole words only": 32, 256 results
4. Entered with quote marks, checking "whole words only": 12 results, none of which contain the required term.
Another example, again Russian to English.
1. Search for офицерск: 64860 results
2. Search for "офицерск": 0 results
2. Search for офицер (the same term slightly shortened): 49527 results
4. Search for офицер: 120 results
NOTE: One of the results obtained with (4) is the word "офицерский", but why didn't this get returned as a result when searching for (2)?
This happens with other language combinations also. The search function used to work efficiently, but something has clearly changed recently to make it do this. Essentially, in this state it is unusable.
Can someone please either look into this and rectify it, or explain how I can once again make the search function work. ▲ Collapse

Site staff is aware of this problem, and working to solve it. Note that it may take some time until all details are worked out. I will let you know on this thread when the problem is fixed.

Hi Wendy,
I have never found the Kudoz search function helpful. Instead, I use Google and limit my search to Proz.com like this:
"искомый термин" site:proz.com
It would be nice if the Kudoz search worked better!
