Good point. I get bored with any subject matter after a while and am usually glad when it's over after about a week, so a project that roughly fills a week (and pays more than 1200 dollars) is ideal for me.

It looks like most of us agree that very small jobs are not ideal. Almost always the time invested is more than what you get paid for.

...that a huge advantage of big jobs/projects is that you become familiar with content at an early stage instead of at the end, as with small projects. The more familiar you are, the faster your translation speed picks up. You slip into overdrive mode and basically your speed depends on how fast you can type, at least in my case, that is.

Ideally, I'm very happy with big projects that can last 2 or 3 months with a deadline that provides enough leeway to accept smaller jobs from other customers midway. The security - one thing a lot of translators fret about - gained from big projects is an all-decisive factor. You know you have income for that particular job for the coming months.
One thing, though, I do not accept big projects unless the payment schedule is clearly defined and staggered,
