Drug formulary Feb 27, 2005

Hi Ana

Welcome to ProZ!

I believe when you say vademecum you’re referring to a “drug formulary”, i.e., a list of approved/available medications (right?), of which each country has its own.

In the US, the most utilized list of approved medications is the PDR (Physicians' Desk Reference). It updates all medications of the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) yearly. The PDR is a book that increases its thickness year after year, but

The PDR is a book that increases its thickness year after year, but luckily now also comes in CD-ROM. As for Internet resources, the PDR contents can be accessed by US medical professionals at PDR.net, in: http://www.pdr.net/pdrnet/librarian.

Otherwise, the hardcopy/CD-ROM PDR book (edition #59, 2005) can be purchased online from:
- http://www.allheart.com/1563634988.html, and other sites.

For links to publications with detailed descriptions of drug dosages, pharmacokinetics, interactions, indications in the US / Canada, and more, you may visit directly the USP site: http://www.usp.org/. Their own series of specialized books is listed at: http://www.micromedex.com/products/uspdi/v1/. Books available electronically are listed at: http://www.micromedex.com/support/faqs/plat_matrix.html

Hope this helps,

Elena

British version Mar 9, 2005

If this is what a 'vademecum' is, then the British version is at http://bnf.org/bnf/ . You'd need to register in order to use it. Hope this is helpful.
